Rising Stars: Meet Mike Prasse of Delaware & columbus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Prasse.

Hi Mike, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It began on a napkin in a Mexican restaurant.
I volunteered at a local dog park, and noticed
that people would ask if a certain dog was already
in the park. If it was, they would leave until that other
dog was gone.
But what if a dog park was only for 1 dog at a time? And had
attractions for dogs?
I scratched the words “Amusemutt Park” on the napkin, and the idea was born
At the same time, the dog park where I volunteered
went up for sale, and I also received my CPDT accreditation
(Certified Professional Dog Trainer).
I bought the dog park, and today it is known as Mutt’s Paradise
AmuseMutt Park and Training Center (thanks to my sister-in-law
Heather for the name!).
Mutt’s Paradise is open Spring – Autumn, and contains 5 acres of land for fetch, and a
one-acre pond in which the dogs can swim.
I also do dog training, both in-home and at the park for those pups that may be too overprotective
or over reactive to other dogs to be trained at home.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
finances at startup.
Realizing limits on what could be done practically and adjusting to them.
conveying the idea to people of a new type of dog park, where they are the only dog and owner present.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
1. Have a dog park and train dogs
2. I am known for being patient using Cognitive training.
3. I am most proud of the dogs I have worked with who were
going to be returned due to behavioral issues. After working
with them and their guardians, they now have the same home
but with more understanding by their people.
4. Patience is what sets me apart. Patient enough to wait for a
dog to figure out something without interfering.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
