Rising Stars: Meet Leigh Hepperly of Dayton Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leigh Hepperly.

Hi Leigh, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story in construction began when I was just 12 years old. Growing up, I was always fascinated by how things were built — the process of taking something broken or incomplete and turning it into something strong and lasting. In my neighborhood, I started by helping wherever I could — doing roof repairs, drywall, painting room, painting fences, for a neighbors construction company. I didn’t realize it at the time, but those early experiences were laying the foundation for what would become my lifelong calling.

As I got older, I started working for my dad’s construction company. That’s where I truly began to understand what hard work and craftsmanship meant. My dad taught me that every nail, every shingle, and every job mattered — because behind every project was a family counting on us. Completing quality projects gave me a deep appreciation for the trade and showed me the value of doing things right the first time. It wasn’t just about getting the job done; it was about integrity, quality, and pride in your work.

Over the years, I gained hands-on experience in every part of the construction process — roofing, remodeling, restoration, and more. But what stood out most to me was how much trust our customers placed in me. People weren’t just hiring someone to fix their home; they were trusting me with something deeply personal. That understanding shaped my approach to business and life.

Eventually, I felt called to take the next step — to start my own company built on the customer first values, but centered even more deeply on my faith. I wanted to create a Christ-led company that honored God in every decision, every interaction, and every project we took on. Dependable Construction was born out of that vision: to serve people the right way, with honesty, excellence, and a genuine heart for helping others.

From day one, I made a commitment — that our company would always put the customer first. That means using only the best crews, the best materials, and never cutting corners. I believe that if you take care of people and do what’s right, success will follow. Every project is more than a job; it’s an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life.

Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come — from a 12-year-old kid learning the ropes to leading a team that shares my passion for quality and service. But more importantly, I’m grateful. Grateful to God for guiding my steps, grateful for my family who supported the vision, and grateful for every customer who has trusted us with their home.

Today, Dependable Construction isn’t just a business — it’s a mission. Our goal is simple: to serve our community with integrity, craftsmanship, and faith. Because when you build with purpose and put people first, everything else falls into place.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest struggles along the way in my construction journey has been finding the balance between quality and cost — and staying true to our values when it comes to both. From day one, we made a commitment to do things the *right* way — using the best materials, hiring skilled crews, and never cutting corners. But in this industry, that commitment often comes with challenges.

There’s always competition from contractors who offer quick, cheap jobs. They’ll promise low prices to win bids, but often at the expense of quality and long-term durability. For us, it’s been tough at times watching potential clients walk away because our quotes are higher. What many don’t see is that our prices reflect not just materials and labor — but craftsmanship, accountability, and pride in the final product.

We’ve had to explain to customers that a properly built project might cost more upfront, but it saves them from costly repairs and headaches down the road. Still, there are times when people just want the fastest or cheapest option, and we lose that work. That can be frustrating, especially knowing the value and longevity our work brings.

Over time, though, we’ve learned that staying true to our standards attracts the right kind of customers — the ones who care about doing it once and doing it right. It’s taken patience, persistence, and faith in what we do, but our reputation for quality has become our strongest asset.

Would you like me to turn this into a short paragraph that fits naturally into your personal story (the 500-word piece you’re working on)? I can blend it into the narrative so it flows smoothly.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What I love most about roofing and construction is the process of creating something real and lasting, taking a customers vision and turning it into something that protects, shelters, and serves families for years to come. There’s something deeply rewarding about standing back at the end of a project, knowing every shingle, every nail, and every board was placed with purpose and care. Construction isn’t just work for me, it’s craftsmanship, it’s accountability, and it’s pride in doing things the right way, even when no one’s watching.

At Dependable Construction, we’ve built our name on those same values. We specialize in true craftsmanship, not quick fixes. Every project we take on reflects our commitment to quality, honesty, and integrity. Our team takes pride in delivering work that lasts, and in being there for our customers every step of the way.

What truly sets us apart from the competition is our honesty. We’re brutally honest with our customers, about costs, timelines, materials, and what’s really needed. We don’t upsell what isn’t necessary, and we don’t sugarcoat the truth. That kind of honesty has earned us trust, and that trust means everything in this business.

Above all, Dependable Construction is a Christ-led company. Our faith guides how we treat people, how we do business, and how we serve our community. We believe that when you work with honesty, humility, and purpose, the results speak for themselves. Every project is more than just a job, it’s a reflection of our values, our faith, and the pride we take in doing dependable work.

How do you define success?
For me, success in the roofing and construction trades isn’t measured just by the number of projects completed or the revenue we generate. As a Christ-led company, success is defined by how we do our work. It’s about serving our customers with honesty, integrity, and excellence, making sure every project reflects the values we hold dear.

Success means building more than roofs and walls — it means building trust, relationships, and a reputation for dependability. It’s knowing that every decision we make aligns with our faith, whether it’s choosing the right materials, treating our crew with respect, or guiding customers toward solutions that are truly in their best interest.

It’s also about leaving a positive impact on our community, showing through our work and our actions that integrity and service matter. When customers know they can count on us to be truthful, fair, and thorough, that’s success. When our team feels proud, valued, and part of something bigger than themselves, that’s success.

Ultimately, as a Christ-led company, success is living out our faith in every nail we drive, every roof we install, and every interaction we have, trusting that our work honors God and serves people well.
