Meet Mecca Abdul-Aziz of E&M Home Health Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mecca Abdul-Aziz.

Hi Mecca, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My mom has been a outstanding caregiver for over 20 years. I mentioned her having her own business in home care and she brushed me off. At the time, I did not think about doing it myself. I originally was coming from education and always knew I wanted to have my own business. I had just started an education tech position and got laid off. I said to myself I would start a business, but did not know which time I would do it. I went through various business ideas. Then home care came back up. I remember exploring it more. Then, I researched how to start a home care in Columbus. After I saw the process, I followed through and was licensed Janurary 2024. From my passion with education and helping people with educational needs, I wanted to be able to bring that into the home care space, of helping people hollistically with their Care. We are not just home care, we are a movement,

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
At times it is smooth, but my biggest challenge can be staffing and as we are growing, financial issues can get in the way due to having to rely on so many people to grow. I am excited to balance out.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about E&M Home Health Care?

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Here is what I believe will happen:

Rapidly Growing Demand / Demographic Pressure

The U.S. population is aging fast: Baby Boomers are entering into older age, and by 2030 a large share of the population will be 65 and over.
Increased prevalence of chronic conditions, multiple comorbidities, and mobility / cognitive issues mean a greater need for consistent, high-quality in-home care and long-term support services.

Caregiver shortages will remain a concern. Recruiting, training, retaining caregivers will be harder, especially for in-home care. Increasing wage pressure, turnover, and burnout will be issues.

To respond, agencies may increasingly adopt technology (automation, AI tools for scheduling, record keeping, documentation) to reduce administrative burden. Also new staffing models (flexible shifts, part-time, gig models) may become more common.

Assistive Robotics & Automation

More adoption of assistive robotics (for mobility, lifting, reminders, fetching) especially as tech matures and costs come down.

Automation in backend operations: billing, scheduling, documentation, care planning will increasingly use machine-learning, AI, cloud platforms.

Emphasis on Preventive & Wellness Care

More focus on preventing decline, not just helping after decline. Wellness, monitoring, early interventions, physical therapy, cognitive health will be integrated into home care services

These are just a few but so much to come. Also it was stated the millions more of people will have Alzheimer’s and dementia more rapidly by 2030-2035. The need is here and will always be
