Life & Work with Brie Freeman of Dayton, OH

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brie Freeman.

Hi Brie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been drawn to all things beauty — it’s been a core part of who I am for as long as I can remember. Back in college, I was the go-to friend for hair and makeup before a night out. But everything changed when I was diagnosed with lupus; an autoimmune disorder that shook up my entire life. I lost my job, my car, and even some close relationships during that time.

During that dark time, a friend encouraged me to pursue makeup artistry professionally. At that point, I felt like I had nothing to lose — so I created business cards, and within three days, I had my first client. Just three months later, I was booked by Fox Sports for the 2016 U.S. Open. At that moment, I took that as a sign from the Universe that I was on the right track, and I’ve been exuberantly running with it ever since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth — but I’ve come to understand that challenges are apart of the journey, especially when you’re walking in your purpose. Balancing my passion for beauty with the physical realities of lupus has been one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever faced.
Some days, showing up fully took more energy than people realized. Some days, I didn’t even feel beautiful — yet my job was to show up and make others feel beautiful. At the time, that was a feeling I felt I couldn’t even conjure within myself.

I wholeheartedly believe in the saying, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Challenges will always be present — and sometimes even persistent. That’s life. But it’s important to find a career path that makes it all worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love being an artist and sharing my creative vision with the world. Makeup is more than beauty to me — it’s a language, an art-form and a means of soul expression.
I’m happy to say I’ve been featured in published works 14 times — and that number continues to grow; even now.

I began my career in bridal, where I specialized in enhancing natural beauty and helping clients feel radiant on their special day. Today, I’m known for a style I like to call “wearable editorial” — a balance of expressive, story-driven artistry with modern elegance. It’s makeup that photographs like art, but still feels effortless enough to wear in the “real world”. It’s said that “the eyes are the windows to the soul”, and my work often centers around emphasizing the eyes while playing up the natural features of my client. I love creating looks that feel elevated while remaining authentic to the individual and the story their soul is expressing.
Skin is also at the heart of my artistry. I believe that great makeup starts with great skin, so each look begins with personalized skincare prep. My goal is always for the final result to feel effortless, intentional, tailored to the person in my chair without ever sacrificing the glam.

What’s next?
My future goals include expanding into television and film while building a brand that reflects the evolution of who I’ve become.
As any true artist knows, when you’ve gone through life-altering experiences, your art changes as you change. Surviving lupus and now being in remission from this harrowing experience has reshaped not only my worldview but my creative voice. I’ve grown profoundly through self-discovery, and self-healing. That growth is something I now infuse into everything that I create.
I see the next chapter of my life as a merging of my artistry and my testimony — expanding my work while honoring the transformation that made it possible for me to become the artist and the muse of my own life.
