Inspiring Conversations with Stephen Hrosar of S&K Painting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Hrosar.

Hi Stephen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been holding a paintbrush for as long as I can remember. My dad was a painter, and I grew up working by his side. I was scraping, sanding, and learning what hard work really meant. He taught me early on that painting isn’t just about making something look good. It’s about doing it right, taking pride in every detail, and standing behind your work no matter what.

After high school, I joined the United States Marine Corp, and when I came home, I went to work for another local painting contractor. I decided to go out on my own, and as I got older, I spent years working on job sites all over the Mahoning Valley.

I always knew the Mahoning Valley is where I belonged. I wanted to build something of my own. I wanted to build something rooted right here in the Valley.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When people see the finished product…fresh paint, clean lines, happy homeowners, it’s easy to miss what it takes to get there. The truth is, building S&K Painting hasn’t been easy.

The economy has had its ups and downs, and when times are tough, the first thing people cut is home improvement. There were seasons when the phone barely rang, and I wondered how we’d keep the lights on. Then there were the opposite seasons. The ones where the work poured in, but there weren’t enough hands to keep up. Finding good help has been one of the hardest parts of running a business. A strong work ethic is rare these days, and I’ve learned that building a solid crew means training from the ground up and leading by example.

There have been long days and longer nights. In the beginning, there were weeks away from home on big projects, living out of hotels, missing family dinners and weekends just to get the job done. I’ve worked through heat waves, freezing mornings, and deadlines that seemed impossible. But even on the hardest days, I remind myself why I started…to build something lasting, to give others honest work, and to take pride in what we do.

I won’t pretend it’s all been smooth. It’s taken faith, grit, and a lot of trial and error to get here. But every challenge has shaped me and this company into what it is today: grounded, grateful, and determined to keep showing up for the people of the Valley.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about S&K Painting?
When people ask what S&K Painting is all about, I tell them it’s simple: we’re a company built on faith, hard work, and pride in our craft.

We specialize in interior and exterior painting, cabinet refinishing, and fine-finish work that turns everyday spaces into something special. Whether it’s refreshing a family home, updating a kitchen, or giving a business a clean, professional look, we bring the same level of care and detail to every single job.

We’re known for our clean, meticulous prep work, our smooth, factory like cabinet finishes, and our respect for every home we walk into. Protecting floors, taping clean lines, keeping dust to a minimum is all part of our standard. It’s not just about paint; it’s about integrity and craftsmanship.

What sets us apart is that we still believe in an old-fashioned work ethic with a modern flawless finish. We show up when we say we will, we communicate clearly, and we take pride in leaving a home better than we found it. We don’t rush through projects . We do them right. Every client gets our full attention, and every job gets our signature touch.

Brand-wise, what we’re most proud of is the reputation we’ve built right here in the Valley. We’re not some franchise. We’re your neighbors. We live here, we work here, and we care about the people here. When someone says, “You can tell it’s an S&K job,” that’s the highest compliment we can get.

At the end of the day, our brand stands for trust, quality, and pride in local craftsmanship. We don’t take that lightly, and we’re grateful every time someone chooses us to be part of their home.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
One of the best parts about owning a local business is the people we get to meet along the way…homeowners, contractors, realtors, designers, and other small business owners who care about quality and community as much as we do.

If you’re wondering how to support or collaborate with S&K Painting, here’s what helps us most:

– Hire local. When you choose S&K, you’re keeping your dollars right here in the Valley. Supporting a local business that’s investing back into this community.

– Tell a friend. Most of our work comes from word of mouth. If you’ve had a great experience, your referral or online review means the world to us.

– Collaborate with us. We love partnering with realtors, builders, interior designers, cabinet makers, and other trades who share our values. If you’re looking for reliable painters who deliver clean, detail-driven work, we’d love to connect.

– Work with us. We’re always open to meeting hard-working people who want to learn the trade and be part of a team that takes pride in what they do.

– Engage online. Like, share, and comment on our posts. It helps more people in the Valley find out about us and keeps local business strong.

We started S&K Painting because we believe in this community, and we believe in doing honest work, treating people right, and showing that craftsmanship still matters. Every project, referral, and handshake means more than you know.
