Hi Carrington, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Entrepreneurship was introduced to me at a young age. My mother used to organize lemonade stands for me and some of our family members to raise money for school clothes and other essentials. That early exposure to business sparked something in me. In my early youth, I started a lawn care service around West Akron, and for a 10-year-old, I had a solid route. By the age of 11, I had opened my own bank account.

That hustler spirit carried me forward. While attending Walsh University, I earned an internship at Northwestern Mutual, where I was honored to receive the Top 100 Internship Award in the nation. The experience at Northwestern Mutual laid the foundation for my future in finance. In December 2017, I took the leap to go independent and founded Carrington Financials. Since then, I’ve been building a business rooted in integrity, client education, and financial empowerment.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A smooth road? No—there are always bumps, curves, and moments of redirection, both in life and especially in business. But the skills and mindset instilled in me from a young age have helped me develop natural instincts—to trust myself, believe in my skill set, adapt to my environment, and pivot when necessary.

As for struggles, where I’m from, you learn early on to use setbacks as fuel—to double down on your beliefs and come back even stronger. Whether in business or life, challenges are inevitable. You’ve got to have heart, resilience, and the courage to push through those tough times. You’ve got to show the universe you’re a dog—that you won’t fold under pressure.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Carrington Financials is an independent insurance brokerage founded in Akron, Ohio. We’re licensed to provide Life, Health, Property, and Casualty insurance. Our services include coverage for auto, home, life, business, and retirement planning. In addition, we offer tax services for both individuals and small businesses.

What sets us apart? To be honest, I believe all professionals in this industry should operate with the same core principle—doing what’s best for the client. So instead of focusing on what makes us “different,” our goal is to show people that we offer the same level of knowledge, products, resources, response time, and reliability as the Fortune 500 leaders in our industry. In fact, we partner with many of the same top-tier carriers our future clients are already familiar with—we just ask for the opportunity to earn their business.

What I’m most proud of brand-wise is that Carrington Financials is a proud Black-owned, independent provider. There’s deep pride and meaning in Black ownership, especially in industries like finance and insurance. Being independent in this space speaks volumes. It allows us to make decisions with our clients and our community at heart—and to direct our impact in ways that truly matter.

My future plans are centered around cornering the market and protecting the neighborhood.
