Hidden Gems: Meet Tammy Hodges of Cleveland Traveling Notary

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Hodges.

Hi Tammy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been a helper by nature — someone who enjoys giving, connecting, and being there when people need a hand. For most of my life, I’ve worn many hats, from raising my three children (and now cherishing my five grandchildren) to exploring my passions for art, crafting, genealogy, and hosting family gatherings. I’ve always loved history, especially Cleveland’s colorful past, and that love inspired the design of my website, which reflects the city’s 1930s–1950s era — a time when travel and style had a special charm, and yes, when the mafia had its mark on Cleveland, too!

My journey into the notary world actually began thanks to a friend who introduced me to it. I had no idea you could build a meaningful and sustainable business from such a service. But once I learned more, I realized how much being a mobile notary aligned with who I am — helping people during important moments in their lives, often when they’re stressed or in need of something handled quickly and correctly.

From there, I founded Cleveland Traveling Notary, blending my love for people, professionalism, and mobility into a business that truly reflects me. It’s been such a rewarding path — one where I can serve others, stay connected to my community, and bring a personal touch to a very detail-oriented profession.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I think that’s true for most people who start something of their own. When I first began as a notary, I had a lot to learn — not just about the laws and procedures, but about building a business from the ground up. I came from a background that wasn’t centered around entrepreneurship, so things like marketing, pricing, and networking were new territory for me.

There were times when I doubted myself or wondered if I was doing things “the right way.” I had to learn through trial and error, especially when it came to managing travel schedules, balancing family time, and handling the unexpected situations that come with being mobile — like bad weather, last-minute calls, or even clients in sensitive emotional situations.

But each challenge made me better at what I do. I learned patience, adaptability, and how to handle people with empathy — because this job isn’t just about notarizing documents, it’s about helping people during some of life’s most important and sometimes stressful moments. Looking back, every bump in the road has helped me grow both personally and professionally, and I wouldn’t trade those lessons for anything.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Cleveland Traveling Notary is a mobile notary service that brings convenience, professionalism, and a personal touch right to my clients’ doors. I travel throughout the Northeast Ohio area to notarize documents wherever people need me — homes, hospitals, nursing facilities, law offices, and even coffee shops. My goal has always been to make the process easy, efficient, and stress-free.

What sets me apart is my approach. I don’t just show up to stamp a document; I show up to help. I’m experienced, professionaly trained, insured, and I take great pride in providing reliable service with genuine care and understanding. Many of my clients are signing documents tied to major life moments — estate planning, real estate closings, power of attorney, medical directives, and many other critical documents — and I always treat those moments with the respect and compassion they deserve.

I also offer services like scanning and printing, courier delivery to FedEx or courthouses, and providing witnesses when needed. These added touches save my clients time and give them peace of mind that everything is handled properly from start to finish.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that my business reflects who I am and the city I love. The design and theme of my brand pay homage to old Cleveland — an era of character, travel, and history — while representing the modern mobility and professionalism of today’s notary services.

What I want readers to know most is that Cleveland Traveling Notary isn’t just about notarizing papers — it’s about helping people when it matters most and knowing you have a professionaly trained and certified Loan Signing Agent/Notary Public. Whether it’s a last-minute hospital visit, a late-night signing, or simply making the process easier for someone with limited mobility, I’m there. My business is built on service, trust, and heart — and I think that’s what keeps people coming back.

What are your plans for the future?
Looking to the future, my vision for Cleveland Traveling Notary is to grow far beyond the Cleveland area and build a nationwide presence. I’m fortunate to work with many talented notaries who, like myself, are dual-commissioned and dedicated to providing exceptional service. While Ohio notaries are limited by state lines when working in person, technology has opened a whole new world of opportunity through Remote Online Notarization (RON).

With RON, we can now serve clients from anywhere — even across the globe — securely and conveniently. I’m already performing online notarizations through other platforms, but my long-term dream is to create and operate through my own RON platform. I want to bring that same personal touch and trusted professionalism that my local clients know me for to people everywhere, no matter where they’re located.

It’s an exciting time to be in this industry. The notary field is evolving quickly, and I see tremendous potential to blend modern technology with old-fashioned values — integrity, reliability, and genuine care for the people we serve. My goal is to help more customers, support more notaries, and build something lasting that reflects both the spirit of Cleveland and the power of connection.
