Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Roberts.
Hi Sharon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started preparing taxes in 1985 for H&R Block in Maumee, Ohio
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Whe I first started preparing taxes, we did them by hand and did our own research. We did have someone to call, if we could not find a good answer to what we were researching. I did not know it then but those early days prepared me for what became a career for me.
As you know, we’re big fans of Generations Tax and Accounting LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I became an enrolled agent in 1992 and it was a hard test to pass. There were no computers like they have today. It took two days sitting in a room of about 30 people who were also taking the same test. We could have no research materials, we had to know our stuff. The test back then had four parts Individual, Parnership, Corporations and Ethics. You were being watched by two IRS agents who either talked or whispered all day.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I love helping people and trying to help them solve issues with their tax returns by talking to the IRS for them.
