Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Caroline Lathrop.
Hi Dr. Caroline, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in Toledo, I always had this pull toward helping people—but I didn’t always know what that would look like. I studied neuroscience and psychology at George Washington University thinking maybe I’d go into medicine or mental health. But during college, I started working as a chiropractic assistant in a local office—and something just clicked for me. I saw how powerful it was to be able to help people feel better without drugs or surgery, just by supporting the body’s natural ability to heal. It was holistic, it was hands-on, and it made so much sense to me.
That experience led me to pursue chiropractic school at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Florida, where I dove in headfirst. I ended up graduating as valedictorian, completed an acupuncture program, and sought out additional resources in pediatric and prenatal care. I knew early on that I wanted to work with moms and babies. There’s something sacred about supporting families at such vulnerable and powerful times in their lives.
Even while I was away, I always knew I’d come back home—there’s just something about Toledo. The people here, the way community matters—it stayed with me. So when the time came to open my own practice, it felt right to bring everything I’d learned back to the place that raised me. And that’s how Simply Well Family Chiropractic was born.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’d love to say it’s been smooth sailing, but the truth is, starting a business from scratch—especially as a young woman in healthcare—has come with quite a few bumps along the road. There were moments of doubt, imposter syndrome, and just plain exhaustion. I remember the weeks before opening the doors to my practice—I sat on the floor of my office surrounded by half-assembled furniture and wondered, “Am I really ready for this?”
But I’ve learned that you don’t have to have everything figured out to begin. You just have to believe enough to take the next step. Every struggle taught me something—how to set boundaries, how to ask for help, how to stay rooted in my mission even when things felt overwhelming.
What kept me going was the vision: creating a space where women feel empowered in their health, where babies are cared for with gentleness, and where families feel truly seen. That vision is what carried me through the hard days. And honestly, the challenges have made it all the more meaningful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Simply Well Family Chiropractic?
Simply Well Family Chiropractic is my heart in business form. It’s more than just a chiropractic office—it’s a space where families feel safe, supported, and cared for from the inside out. I focus on pediatric and perinatal chiropractic, which means I get to work with babies, kids, pregnant mamas, women on their fertility journey, and postpartum parents—all stages of family life.
I also offer acupuncture, which is especially powerful for hormonal balance, stress, fertility challenges, and postpartum healing. Everything I do is grounded in the belief that your body is wise—and my job is to listen to it, support it, and help my patients reconnect to that inner wisdom.
What makes Simply Well different isn’t just what we do, it’s how we do it. The space is cozy and calm, there’s always a room available for breastfeeding, a changing table in the bathroom, toys for little ones—every detail is intentional. But more than that, I try to create an atmosphere where no one feels rushed or overlooked. I want every person who walks in to feel heard, valued, and empowered.
I’m especially proud that we center inclusion and community in everything. Health care should never feel exclusive or intimidating. Whether you’re a first-time parent navigating the unknown, a seasoned mom juggling a million things, or someone just trying to feel like themselves again—this space is for you.
What makes you happy?
Watching a mom walk out of my office feeling lighter—physically, emotionally, mentally. Seeing a baby sleep better or feed more comfortably after an adjustment. Hearing someone say, “I finally feel like myself again.” Those moments fill me with so much joy and remind me why chasing this dream is so important.
Outside the office, I’m happiest doing the simple things—morning coffee, walks in the beautiful Toledo metroparks with my golden retriever, Harvey, or spending time with my boyfriend, Jared. I love the rhythm of life here in Toledo. It’s a place where I feel grounded.
But more than anything, what makes me happiest is building something that truly helps people. Simply Well isn’t just my career—it’s my way of giving back to a community that shaped me. I feel incredibly grateful to be doing what I love, in the place I love, with people I believe in.
