Daily Inspiration: Meet Lindsay Hastings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Hastings.

Lindsay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Enjoying the outdoors was probably how I ended up here as an herbalist working with plants to serve my community. I was that kid swinging on vines and climbing trees and building forts. I found wild foraging fascinating and loved learning which flowers I could eat. My paternal grandmother was the last of the fire watchers (people who looked for forest fires in fire towers), so I have always felt the need to connect with nature. She always told me she worked for Smoky the Bear.

Fast forward to today, we have an apothecary in downtown Waynesville. I named our Apothecary Green Feather after one of my grandmothers, Red Feather, and our Irish and Falconer ancestors. It’s a long story so stop by sometime and I’d be happy to tell you the whole story!

I’m Certified in BowenWork, a Licensed Massage Therapist, Trained in Herbalism, Kinesiology, flower essences, homeopathics and am currently on the list of approved medical professionals for Ehlers Danlos Society. This is close to my heart as I have several family members and friends that deal with this.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a small business owner is not for the faint of heart. I’ve traveled around, slept in my van during markets when hotels weren’t in the budget, held my tent down during wind storms, gone through so many pop up tents I’ve lost count, and I also struggle with chronic illness myself.
I have a lot of hilarious stories too! Doing this has always brought me joy as I love having a creative job. Meeting other small business owners doing this has been rewarding as well. So the good definitely outweighs the occasional problems or bumpy roads.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create my own teas, tinctures and salves for my apothecary. I love making their names meaningful and sometimes nerdy! I think what sets me apart is everything I do I try to tell a story. I want people to feel the way I do when they see it. To laugh, feel moved, or to even feel less alone in the world and understood.
I also do beadwork and make most all the jewelry in my shop.

What makes you happy?
My family makes me happy. My greatest joy is a happy home and being balanced in all aspects of my life. Which I don’t always accomplish, but I certainly try to keep a good balance with work, family, friends and spirituality.
