Daily Inspiration: Meet Dionna May

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dionna May

Hi Dionna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I discovered my love for thrifting in 2017 when I was a broke college student who was going to a fashion school and wanted cute clothes like my peers but did not have “cute clothes” money. So I started shopping at GoodWill, The Salvation Army and every vintage shop I drove by and found that I love styling outfits for class. I would seriously have 3 classes a day and wear 3 different outfits to each class becuse I was so excited to style my pieces I thrifted for 99 cents. After an array of complements from the fashion girlies who were at my college I decided to start posting my thrifted outfits on Instagram, then I got my first brand deal in 2019! Then the pandemic hit and everyone in my zoom class was talking about “TikTok” so I downloaded it that night and started posting the next morning. I was just styling clothes in my apartment and some of my videos blew up so I gained more confidence to post more about myself. I posted vlogs, makeup tutorials, DIY decorating vids and recorded everything I did! Now here I am, I love my job as a full time content creator and when I become a full time working actress I will still create content because I love it so much.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course not, I compare myself to more popular creators all the time and it makes me depressed constantly! Oh, I just spent 5 hours filming and editing this video and it received 85 views and 15 likes, awesome! While someone just propped their phone up and lip sang a song for 45 seconds and the videos has 1 million likes. It makes me want to hurl my phone off of a cliff into the river below. But thats quite dramatic and though I claim I don’t need social media, there is no way my fingers would let my phone go. The main struggle being a content creator is imposter syndrome and self doubt.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am known for my Type A, Type B personality videos I’d think. Those video got me featured in a Buzzfeed article and interviewed on a morning radio show! I am just proud of myself for being consistent. Anyone can create content but being consistent is the hardest part.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Just start now, do it now and post every day for a year and don’t stop posting.
