Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Maki.
Todd, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It’s an incredibly long, winding story. I did not set out to be in music in any capacity whatsoever. In many ways, I was somewhat proactively heading in the opposite direction. It was something that I enjoyed and was something that very much found me as opposed to the other way around.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think I know what a smooth road is. I have had some of the most egregious challenges, have faced some of the most bizarre betrayals, and have walked through some of the most terrifyingly debilitating obstacles that I could have never imagined. But I will readily admit that to a large degree. It was those challenges that made me who I am today. I don’t think that we are able to understand our true potential until we are forced into a situation that requires us to prove it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work occupationally as a composer, a producer as well as a conductor. The majority of my composition work is for Film, which goes hand-in-hand with a lot of my work as a producer. My work as a conductor was something that was born, mostly out of necessity as I found myself running a lot of recording sessions involving a lot of musicians which required me to become proficient in conducting. I suppose I am most proud of my ability to finish something. Very few people achieve success simply because they don’t know the art of follow through.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I struggle with reading music.
