Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Humble.
Hi Brittany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
So fashion came pretty easy to me. I ended up going to Pensacola Christian College, and basically majoring in making over anybody and everybody that I could… I had one friend that she was the most beautiful girl, but I also had to let her know that she needed to have two eyebrows, not just one… Anyways that led me to giving makeovers with clothing hair make up whatever I can get my hands on honestly at this point I’m not even sure I knew what I was graduating with. I was just so excited to get ready and give makeovers… So that led me into I did end up graduating with a business degree and fast-forward some years later, I ended up getting pregnant after we were married about couple years. It still was a big surprise and we were pretty scared because we had no money, but we took all of our savings and I wanted to open a store. I knew I wanted to open a store so I opened a store when my son was about six months old and he was actually in the store with me for The first three years of his life. I did. I started with a vintage clothing because it was cheap and it didn’t need a huge markup and little by little I was able to add a good brand new clothing, but my heart definitely started with a vintage and I do have a whole story for that, but that will take a lot of time anyways I started a 2011 and I was a personal stylist as well as I sewed my own clothes and I was known for dressing, people people came in and I just dress them. I taught them. I showed them how to wear stuff not just what they needed to buy, but how they wore things even from their own closetwith a baby on my hip and $28 to my name on grand opening we just kept putting the money we made back into the store and here we are 14 years later.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, like I said we did start with everything in our savings. I believe that was $7000 and I again had $28 to my name when I opened my store and we were freaking out but good thing I was nursing so the baby could eat at least But everything I made I just kept ordering more for the store so I did not take any money from the store for the first three years I just kept investing so I would say that was very scary but the community has always been really great and I’ve always had a really great support support system
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So I actually started as a designer I sewed a lot of clothing and designed a lot. I even made bridesmaids dresses custom dresses for people I was on Hsn for a couple years, designing my own pieces and now I designed for the store plus I do ordering in from fenders as well, I would say I’m most proud of Being able to be a mom full-time and have a business. My favorite thing and biggest accomplishment is being a mom I love it so much, and the fact that I was able to still accomplish many of my dreams and be the mom that I wanted to be that is my biggest accomplishment I would say what sets me apart from others is my personal styling. I love putting clothes together. I’m not just selling a sweater. I’m literally creating an entireoutfit and not just from my store but teaching others.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I would say don’t judge people… I mean in a business aspect there’s so many people I think that right people off when they come in their store depending on how they look, but I give one of my customers all my attention regardless if they say they’re gonna spend anything that doesn’t matter to me. I love being able to teach people and honestly just making them feel beautiful regardless of if they were gonna spend or not I did have somebody come in who said they had no money they can’t buy, but they were just kind of wandering in and I gave them the entire experience and not expecting them to buy anything I didn’t want them to. I just wanted to make them feel beautiful and teach them how to dress and here a week later she came back and bought everything I put on her. She said she felt so amazing in all her clothes and that made me feel so awesome so definitely do not judge a book bites cover and don’t just be in businessfor money. It’s honestly making people feel beautiful. That is my number one goal.
