Today we’d like to introduce you to Ava Grace.
Hi Ava Grace, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
hi! back when I was around 16, I was forcing my siblings to model for me and capturing our farm animals on my little iPhone, thinking nothing of it. my family, however, saw something in me that I hadn’t considered, and suggested I take photography seriously, maybe even go to college. I thought, “who’s going to pay ME for photos? seems silly!” now look at me! fast forward to 19/20 years old, working at a retail store and trying to balance photography all in one. I finally got an interview to work for a school photography company, where I worked for ONE week, hated it and quit. I remember saying to my now husband, “should I just go back to working at Walmart?” and he urged me to just do photography full time and see what happens. it’s been around 4 years now and I can’t imagine it any other way!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve always had the passion and abilities for the actual photography aspect of this world, but learning the business and admin side was not as fun (haha)! aside from that, burn out has been a frequent struggle over the years. I’m someone that hates the idea of letting my clients down, and so I work, a lot. I always try to squeeze people in, and have a problem NOT working on my days off. I’ve definitely gotten better lately about taking time away from the camera to live my own life, which has helped. I’m sure so many other creatives can relate!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a traveling creative photographer, specializing in beautiful solo, couple, or small family portraits. I have a special love for couples, and especially a good one-on-one solo session, where I can get to know my client and have FUN! on social media, I’m most known for my lily pad sessions, my husband’s hilarious “dude-oirs” shoots, and my playful trailer park maternity concepts. I’ve also recently gone viral a few times for my ridiculous reels featuring my “photographer wedgie” lol! but at the end of the day, I’m most proud of the art I’ve been able to create, and the amazing people that trust me to capture them. ♡
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
It’s hard to choose, but as a kid I always loved going to my grandparents to hangout with all the animals, as well as playing with my own animals at home growing up. horses, alpacas, goats, dogs and cats, chickens, a pot belly pig, rabbits, hamsters, and more! my love for animals has definitely boiled over into photography, as I LOVE shooting with horses, especially.
