Community Highlights: Meet Beau J. Van Wechel D.C. of Pure Health Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beau J. Van Wechel D.C..

Hi Beau, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I first became interested in chiropractic after a college football injury. While recovering from a leg fracture, I developed some of the worst back pain I’d ever experienced. My chiropractor explained that the pain stemmed from the way I was walking on crutches — and that moment opened my eyes. I realized how interconnected the body is, and how debilitating spinal issues can be. That experience changed the trajectory of my life.

Getting through chiropractic school wasn’t easy — especially financially and emotionally — and I couldn’t have done it without my wife. I originally set out to practice in my hometown and gave that everything I had for two years. But eventually, I had to face the hard truth: it wasn’t working. That led us to take a leap of faith and move to a new town we had no personal connections in, after hearing about an opportunity to take over a retiring doctor’s practice.

That was three years ago. The first year and a half was tough — as all new ventures are — but it brought my wife and I closer than ever. We’ve built lifelong friendships here, and now with another baby on the way, it truly feels like home. Today I run Pure Health Chiropractic and am building a digital wellness brand called Better Beau to help others take ownership of their health and transformation.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road — but a meaningful one. When we first moved here, the hardest part was how much my wife missed being close to family. For a while, I was driving her and our daughter back home every month or two just to stay connected. That got easier with time as we built friendships and started to feel truly rooted in the community.

On the business side, the challenge was growth. Taking over an existing practice is one thing — but making it thrive, especially in a town where you don’t know anyone, is something else entirely. It was tough, but it was also incredibly rewarding.

What got me through was faith — first and foremost. That, combined with the support of an amazing team at Pure Health and the mentorship of Dr. Matt Houchin, helped me stay focused and grounded when things felt uncertain.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Pure Health Chiropractic, we specialize in safe, gentle chiropractic care focused on long-term spine correction and posture restoration. Our approach is different from many in the field — we don’t just chase symptoms. We take the time to identify the root cause of issues and help our patients actually fix it, so they can get back to living the life they want.

What sets us apart is both our environment and our approach. Patients often describe our clinic as calm and spa-like, which is intentional — we want people to feel cared for the moment they walk in. We also invest in state-of-the-art equipment, including digital X-rays and modern chiropractic techniques, to ensure every patient receives precise, effective care.

What I’m most proud of, though, is the trust we’ve built in the community. So many of our new patients come through word of mouth — through the shared stories, referrals, and reviews of people whose lives we’ve impacted. That means more than any ad campaign ever could.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Some of the most impactful mentors in my life haven’t come from within chiropractic at all — they’ve come from leaders in entirely different industries, often through connections at church or in the community. I’ve found that when you surround yourself with high-character people who lead well, their perspectives can open your eyes to new solutions you might never consider within your own lane.

Of course, it’s important to learn from those ahead of you in your own field. But sometimes when chiropractors are only solving chiropractic business problems with advice from other chiropractors, the results tend to look the same. Getting an outside perspective has helped me avoid ruts and find creative solutions.

My advice: focus on relationships, not just roles. Some of the best mentors aren’t the loudest or most public — they’re the people quietly living out integrity and excellence in everything they do.
