Rising Stars: Meet Terence Keaser

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terence Keaser.

Hi Terence, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The story is a little heavy.

I was drawn to different music as a child. My parents listened to everything from Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Allan Jackson, etc… As I became older, I explored my own interest in music.

It was 2008/2009 when I started The Wave 96 Internet Radio station. As a teenager, I felt empowered. I had a voice; I had a platform. I look back, and WOW was I ahead of my time. There is so much I could go into detail about.

2011 I officially had my first live DJ performance/gig.

2012 – started a college room radio show called Story of My Life or SOML. We talked about life, college, and whatever people would listen to. We would do polls on Twitter and Facebook. We’d give shoutouts on air. All the fun stuff!

It was around this time I thought for sure I was going to be an on-air personality DJ. LOL.

2013/14 graduated with a marketing degree.

I left the DJ and radio world until 2015. A friend of mine had a band who was sick. I covered for them and I performed at a local bar. The Rustic Cafe in Delphos, Ohio, brought me back to life. I became the house DJ for this bar. James Wiltsie the owner gave me a chance. I still DJ at this bar today! I am not sure the total number of gigs I have there, but it is a lot.

2016 I left my marketing job to pursue a career in entertainment. I was working for a company that produced everything from weddings, university campus activities, and corporate events to private parties. You think of it; they probably did it. It was with this company that it was apparent that I had a feel for the wedding process and style.

In short. I spent 2.5 years learning and kicking ass at this company. I performed at over 60 weddings in 2 years… Unfortunately, I lost sight of my passion and burned out.

2018/19 I left that job to pursue another passion… Bowling. Everything was great Then we had COVID 19.

I did maybe 20 weddings from 2018 to 2020. It was enough to keep my passion alive. The other thing that kept happening was referrals. This is where I have to stop and THANK every single person who has referred me. I literally wouldn’t be where I am at with those referrals. I also wouldn’t be here without my brides or grooms. The families I have helped and those who have helped me.

So here we are. It is 2022. I have a full-time DJ business where I believe the final number of weddings will be 28. In 2023, I already have 22 weddings on the books. This is just an incredible thing I get to do for people. A day which is so important. You don’t get a redo on your wedding day.

Hope this helps.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh my god the obstacles.

You get to work weekends.

Food and health is not always top of mind. I struggle regularly to keep my eating and even drinking at bay.

It is easy to get sucked into the “always celebrating” or “having fun” lifestyle. You can’t let yourself get too high up there. The balance will crash, and you’ll want hide under a rock. I have hit moments where I want nothing to do with people, and I am a people person.

The I am going to do this and the I am not going to do this can also be exhausting. I am officially at the stage of I am doing this. If it doesn’t my mission and purpose, I don’t do it.

I have learned to say no!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a DJ, entertainer, problem solver, a person of laughter, jokes, and someone who helps others enjoy life.

I have helped with nearly 100 weddings since 2016. I’d like to think I specialize in helping people create wonderful memories. I hope, at the end of the day, a couple or family. Looks back and are happy they hired DJ Terence.

I look back, and I think I am most proud of myself for not giving up. I am always adapting. I have lived in Lima, Ohio for school. I bought my first house in 2015. I bought a second house in 2019. Now my girlfriend and I have a house so my third house in late 2021.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Our city? As in Greenville?

I love it. It is my hometown. I grew up there. My family is there.

My least favorite part is sometimes small towns get stuck in their ways.
