Rising Stars: Meet Kris Rhymes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Rhymes.

Kris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Art was always around growing up; I started around 8-9 years old using coloring books, soon moved to sketchbooks at 12-13, and soon started developing my craft.

Central High School, I took some Art classes and eventually transferred to Metro Tech for Advertising Design.

It wasn’t until first year of community college where my Art teacher asked if I’d be interested in being a Free Lance Artist AKA Artrepreneur haha…

I took that in consideration and put myself out there for an Art Walk called First Friday in Phoenix, AZ, where I’m born and raised. It was an eye-opening experience to my beliefs and value that lead me from one show to another, which allowed me to continue my path as a Visual Artist.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The ride isn’t easy… If it was easy, everyone would do it, they say…

There’s beauty in the struggle I embrace because it makes you stronger and better, it also allows you to grow as an Artist by developing your craft and skill by expressing your life through Art.

Had many struggles, uncertainty to commissions, business that fell through, sleepless nights, bad management, mistakes with my Art, bad shows curated, just to name a few…

It’s tough, but there’s only so much you can control; I go by what I can control and work one step at a time…

I learn from my mistakes, and I correct them; I go about it this way to be the best version I can be as an Artist & person, which goes hand in hand with each other.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Professional Artist & Barber

In the Art world, I’m known for my two niches from my Art brand of KRhymes Artistry.

One collection, I use Chocolate Syrup as my medium, and my second collection, I use Album Covers as my medium.

I’ve also been cutting hair as a Professional for 13 years to where I specialize in designs of my Barber brand

Rhymes Designs.

I’m known for my Chocolate Art where people were calling me “ChocKolate-Man,” which soon grew to me opening another collection that amazed people to thrive in more opportunities.

Leading to me presenting and having my Art “Kings Music” collected at the I PROMISE School.

I’m most proud of the recent Art project I did for the House Three Thirty Museum/ Community Center in Akron, Ohio.

It took me 9 months to create, and I managed it very well in the process of creating.

I also pat myself on the back for my improvement as an Artist, getting better with detail, how I present and allowing myself to move forward to new creative endeavors.

What sets me apart is just being natural and authentic to me and what I do by trusting the process.

I like to think outside the box, questioning the status quo, having many perspectives on seeing things, and expressing it through my work. Very attentive to my work when it comes to detail, color, concept, and meaning because it’s my way of expressing myself and allowing my Art to speak for itself.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Most important lesson is to be true to you and your Art. Embrace the journey because each lesson is going get you further to where you want to be.

Just know your path takes less or more time than others. Believe it and Trust it.
