Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Gurwin.
Hi Joey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out as a homeless kid that was obsessed with music. I found connection through music. First performing with others, and eventually recording music at my house while working a 9-5. One day, I was basically faced with a choice of continuing to work in jobs that I found very little fulfillment or to risk failure and pursue music production full time. I’ve been very fortunate to have worked with amazing and talented people over the years, allowing me to take on larger projects.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, it hasn’t always been smooth. Failure is part of the story. Honestly, failure is the most important part of the story. It’s how we learn, how we become better. Not just in business, but as humans. It should always be a bit of a struggle…the only way to coast is downhill.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make records. I find music that I like, and help to turn it into music that I love. Being a trusted Steward of other people’s art is something that I don’t take lightly.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I think that it’s an accumulation of everything that I have read, listened too, and experienced. I couldn’t really point to one.
