Rising Stars: Meet Eric Turner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Turner.  

Hi Eric, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always wanted to next biggest film director/ videographer. Grew up watching a lot of movies with a different eye. I was watching to why this angle? How the lighting was set up? How the story for the movie flowed. I eventually started shooting lifestyle videos, moved to music videos, director of photographer for Victor Oladipo feat. PnB Rock “Connected” music video, and so many more over the years. I also got into barbering in 2012; with me having to take care of both of my siblings, I always practiced safety and sanitation. I studied 360 Jeezy, Matt gifted hands and get beam, barbers that have really carried themselves in a different light. I decided to make it official and pass barber school and get my license. I got that accomplished in 2019 on the anniversary of grandmother’s passing. To this day, I have been working my mastery of both crafts pushing into the field of educating and providing to the future. Showcasing options in ways, I couldn’t see growing up. Just provide alternative options for young black men instead of want culture tells you what you should be. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been anything BUT smooth! Having such responsibilities at a young age, such as newborn a 3yr old and both of my brothers and my fiancé. I struggled financially, so working several jobs to support what has manifested here today while handling my duties as a parent. Work-life balance will always something to be worked on, as I did build everything from the ground up. In barber school because of covid, I was in school 2 years without any source of income other than freelancing my video work.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Educating and opening my barbershop and production company many motion pictures of my own, and leaving my mark on the world
