Today we’d like to introduce you to Elyse Jones.
Hi Elyse, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey as a fashion designer started as a friendly joke between friends that unexpectedly turned into a career I truly love. What began as a creative challenge quickly became a passion, inspiring me to pursue fashion design on my own terms.
Over the past 10 years, I have built my career as a self-taught fashion designer, developing my skills through dedication, experimentation, and a commitment to pushing creative boundaries. Today, I continue to design couture and out-of-the-box fashion pieces that reflect my unique vision and artistic style.
In addition to designing, I have expanded my role within the industry as a Creative Director, helping shape innovative projects and creative concepts. I am also honored to share my experiences through speaking engagements, where I inspire others to embrace creativity, take risks, and pursue their passions. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how a simple joke evolved into a fulfilling career that continues to challenge and inspire me every day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. As a self-taught fashion designer, one of my biggest challenges was learning the technical and business sides of the industry without the benefit of formal training. I had to invest a lot of time into educating myself, refining my craft, and proving that my talent and vision could stand alongside designers with traditional backgrounds.
There were also challenges in building credibility, finding opportunities, and balancing creativity with the realities of running a business. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced setbacks, moments of self-doubt, and projects that didn’t go as planned. However, each challenge taught me something valuable and helped me grow both personally and professionally.
The fashion industry is constantly evolving, so staying innovative and relevant requires continuous learning and adaptation. Looking back, those struggles helped shape my resilience, strengthened my confidence, and ultimately contributed to the success I enjoy today as a designer, Creative Director, and speaker.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a fashion designer, Creative Director, and speaker who loves to create couture and unconventional fashion that challenge expectations and celebrate individuality. My work is all about designing one-of-a-kind pieces that blend artistry, innovation, and storytelling, giving my clients a way to express themselves confidently and meaningfully.
Over the years, I’ve become known for my unique approach to fashion design. Instead of just following trends, I focus on creating memorable pieces that push creative boundaries while still being crafted with the utmost care and skill. As a Creative Director, I also enjoy helping develop and bring to life creative visions for fashion projects, productions, and brand experiences.
What I am most proud of is building a successful career as a self-taught designer. It all started as a friendly joke among friends, and it’s grown into a profession that lets me make a positive impact through fashion, creativity, and public speaking. Inspiring others to embrace their uniqueness and pursue their passions is truly one of the most fulfilling parts of my journey.
What makes me stand out is my willingness to take creative risks and my view of fashion as more than just clothing; it’s a form of art, self-expression, and empowerment. My unconventional route into the industry has given me a fresh perspective, allowing me to approach design without limits and create work that’s authentic, distinctive, and deeply personal.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing that surprises many people is that I never set out to become a fashion designer. What is now is that a successful career started as a friendly joke between friends. Most people see the finished designs, fashion shows, and creative projects, but they are often surprised to learn that I am completely self-taught and built my career through passion, determination, and hands-on experience rather than formal training in fashion school.
Another thing people may not realize is how much thought and storytelling go into every design. While my work is often known for being bold, artistic, and unconventional, each piece is created with a deeper purpose to inspire confidence, spark conversation, and encourage self-expression.
I think that unconventional beginning is what has shaped my entire approach to fashion. Because I didn’t follow a traditional path, I learned to trust my instincts, embrace creativity without limits, and create from a place of authenticity. What started as an unexpected opportunity became a lifelong passion, and that’s something many people find surprising when they hear my story.
