Rising Stars: Meet Dumpstar Slim of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dumpstar Slim.

Hi Dumpstar , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born in Akron, Ohio and raised in Washington DC Dumpstar Slim had to grow up fast. A product of his environment he had to make something out of nothing which landed him in trouble with the law at the young age of 15 also at such time he was homeless. His oldest sister Kelly who went by “Penny” was in an all female local rap group named “Top Notch” introduced Slim to music at the age of 7. Music has always been an important part of his life, from freestyles in jail cells to deciding to take music seriously in an actual studio in 2022.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life, having to deal with the usual young black male challenges in America. Having to grow up from a “yn” mindset transitioning into a grown man mindset because I became a father. Dealing with the death of loved ones. Going to jail and lying to my daughter telling her that daddy was in school. Typical baby mama drama. Etc

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an artist. I love to vent to the booth, my trust in people is thin but my trust in the booth is therapeutic. I don’t consider myself known for anything specific I don’t think fit into a box. I’m most proud of me being more consistent than I was when I first started making music. Consistency is greatness. What sets me apart from others, more specific my peers in Akron is that I have a completely different vibe and flow and I think that’s because I was raised in DC
