Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Lickert.
Brittney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, originally picturing myself in the world of branding and logo design. But during college, everything changed when my sister asked me to design her wedding invitations. That one project completely shifted my path-it sparked a passion I didn’t see coming. Before long, friends and acquaintances were reaching out for their own wedding invitations, and I realized I had discovered something really special.
After graduation, I took a job in home décor design while continuing to create wedding stationery in the evenings. What started as a creative side project began to grow faster than I could have imagined. Eventually, I reached a crossroads—should I keep it as a side gig or take the leap and pursue it full-time? After a lot of prayer and heartfelt conversations with my husband, we decided it was time to follow this dream and make Brittney Nichole Designs my full-time focus.
And truly, it’s been the best decision I could have made! Thirteen years later, I’m so thankful to do what I love every single day. It’s given me the gift of being home with my two daughters while they were little and even homeschooling them during their early years. I feel so blessed, and my heart is full.
Brittney Nichole Designs is now a full-service heirloom invitation studio, thoughtfully guiding couples through their entire stationery journey – from save the dates to day-of details and signage. Rooted in my love for painting and illustration, every piece of artwork I use is created by hand (with the occasional touch of vintage art I can’t resist). I take great pride in offering designs that are truly one-of-a-kind. Whether it’s adding a beloved pup to an RSVP card or painting a custom watercolor map of meaningful places, I love weaving in personal details that feel both artful and deeply meaningful.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a home-based small business owner, finding balance between work and family hasn’t always come easily. Early on, I equated being busy with being successful and worried that saying “no” to opportunities might slow my growth. That mindset worked for a while, especially before we had children, but once our family began to grow, the weight of trying to do it all became impossible to ignore.
I eventually realized that saying “yes” to every project often meant saying “no” to time with my family. And for me, family will always come first. That realization sparked a shift in how I approach my business. Over time, I’ve learned the value of setting boundaries and recognizing that not every project aligns with the vision I have for my business or for my family life. When I take on too much, it doesn’t just affect my work, it affects my home and the people I love most.
Now, I’m intentional about how many couples I take on each month. Setting those boundaries allows me to give every project the care and attention it deserves while also preserving time for what matters most…my family.
It’s an ongoing journey, and one I certainly haven’t perfected. But I’ve found that when I keep my family and personal goals at the center, I’m able to build a business that truly supports the life I want to live.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in creating custom wedding invitations that feature artwork, whether watercolor paintings or hand-drawn illustrations, designed exclusively for each couple I work with. No two love stories are alike, and I believe invitations should reflect that.
One of my favorite parts of the design process is listening to each couple’s story – the places that mean the most to them, the details that make their relationship unique, and the overall vision they have for their wedding day. From there, I transform those details into meaningful artwork that becomes the heart of their invitation suite.
Whether it’s a custom watercolor of their wedding venue, a sketch of a beloved pet, or a floral motif inspired by the bouquet, every element is thoughtfully created by hand. The result is a one-of-a-kind invitation that not only sets the tone for the celebration, but also serves as an heirloom keepsake – something to treasure for generations to come!
