Rising Stars: Meet Audra Dalton of Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Audra Dalton.

Hi Audra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey in cosmetology began after becoming a young mother. I wanted a career that would provide financial stability while also allowing me the flexibility to be present for my children and never miss the important moments in their lives. I started my career in a men’s salon and later worked in two established salons in Wilmington, gaining valuable experience and refining my skills.

In January 2018, I fulfilled a dream by opening my own booth rental salon in Wilmington. Along the way, I became an educator for Matrix Hair Color, a role that has allowed me to share my passion for the industry and mentor future cosmetologists. Teaching and giving back to the next generation of beauty professionals has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.

Today, I am the proud mother of three adult children and grandmother to one beautiful grandchild. I own and operate a thriving full-service salon with an amazing team of talented professionals. Together, we offer a wide range of services including hair color and cutting, facial waxing, nail services, lash services, and piercing. I am grateful for the relationships I’ve built throughout my career and remain passionate about helping every guest look and feel their best.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to building a successful salon wasn’t always easy. One of the greatest challenges was finding the right team of artists—professionals who not only possessed talent and creativity but also shared the same vision, passion, and dedication to client care. Building a strong salon culture took time, patience, and the willingness to learn from both successes and setbacks.

Like many business owners, I experienced plenty of trial and error along the way. Every challenge became a lesson, helping me grow as both a stylist and an entrepreneur. There were countless late nights spent planning, problem-solving, and preparing for the next day, followed by early mornings focused on serving clients and growing the business. The journey required determination, resilience, and a relentless work ethic, but those experiences helped shape the salon into what it is today and made the successes even more rewarding.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
No two days are exactly alike in my career, which is one of the things I love most about being a stylist and salon owner. My day often begins early, preparing for clients, supporting my team, and making sure the salon is running smoothly. Behind the chair, I spend my time consulting with guests, creating customized color and haircut plans, educating clients on how to maintain their look at home, and helping them feel confident and beautiful. In addition to working with clients, I manage the day-to-day operations of the salon, mentor other beauty professionals, and continue learning new techniques and trends to bring the best possible service to those who trust me with their hair.

What sets me apart as a stylist is my commitment to truly listening to my clients and understanding their lifestyle, goals, and individual needs. I believe great hair is about more than following trends—it’s about creating a look that enhances a person’s confidence and fits who they are. With years of experience, advanced color education, and a passion for continued growth, I combine technical skill with genuine care for every guest who sits in my chair. My clients know they will receive honest recommendations, personalized service, and results that help them look and feel their very best.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My essential qualities are rooted in resilience, dedication, and authenticity. I am hardworking and determined, never afraid to put in the long hours and effort required to achieve my goals. As both a salon owner and stylist, I lead with integrity, believing that trust, consistency, and strong relationships are the foundation of lasting success.

I am compassionate and people-focused, taking the time to truly listen and connect with others. Whether working with clients, mentoring students, or supporting my team, I strive to make people feel valued, understood, and confident. I am also adaptable and growth-minded, .

Above all, I am proud to be someone who leads by example—showing up every day with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those around me.
