Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Burton.
Hi Allie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was always drawn to creative hobbies growing up, but never quite saw it as a possibility for a career path. After completing a bachelor’s of biology, I shortly pursued a career in the clinical research industry and married my high school sweetheart. Upon having our first child, we made the decision for me to stay at home. This is when I started my search for a creative outlet. I tried many things leading up to becoming an artist that included blogging, crafting, digital artwork, and photography.
During the summer of 2021 was when I first picked up a paintbrush and quickly fell in love with acrylics. I fell fast from there and have been learning and growing as an artist ever since. I enjoy being a new artist who has the freedom to explore and push my creativity to new places. At the beginning of 2022, I decided to create a business and have been working hard to share my art with the world. I am proud of the strides I have made in the past year, including having two of my pieces featured in a local art exhibition. I am excited to continue to grow and cannot wait to see where my creativity takes me next!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The creativity part has always come easily for me, but the business side of things has been quite the learning curve.
Learning how to start a business and make sure you are doing things the correct way is no easy task. I am still learning every day and am grateful to have a group of peers in the art community to help me along the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I find most of my inspiration in the complexity of nature. My current works are impressionistic takes on florals and landscapes, which reflect the joy they inspire and the connections we can nurture in the presence of nature. Each unique piece I create brings brightness, joy, and hopefulness to the space it holds, which I feel emulates the sensation we experience when we ground ourselves with nature.
I am always finding ways to bring the bright colors that exist naturally on our earth to my artworks in a way that exudes happiness and brings a wave of peace to the space they hold. Although I mainly paint flowers, I enjoy branching out with art materials, techniques, and subject matters.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have found that Instagram is an amazing space for the art community and for connecting with peers. There are so many creatives on Instagram who are extremely generous with their knowledge and support. I would highly recommend just putting your art out there and slowly building your community online.
They will be some of the best people you know and the first people you turn to when you have a problem. There are also various amazing courses in the art community, which bring on a sense of community as well. I would highly recommend finding a few that you could benefit from and leaning into the peer groups that come with them.
