Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Moran.
Tina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Like many, I knew I wanted to “help people” when I approached college and selecting my major. I went to the University of Evansville in Indiana initially for Nursing and later switched to Psychology. I’ve joked with others that it only took a pharmacology class and dealing with enemas to realize this wasn’t my calling! After graduating with my Bachelor’s, I started a PsyD program and realized that Social Work gave me more flexibility. I graduated with my Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama. After nine years of working different jobs and gaining valuable experience, I made the switch and opened up my own private practice, Tina Moran LLC in June of 2019.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Switching to owning my own business was very overwhelming! The idea of “you don’t know what you don’t know” is so true. If it weren’t for my family encouraging me to make the switch and having colleagues and mentors that I trust and respect guiding me through the early stages, I would still be working at an agency!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a mental health therapist. I work with teens, adults, couples, and families. I recently started a virtual shame resilience group and will be starting sign-ups for the next group! I try to create a comfortable atmosphere so people can come in, talk about what’s going on, and work to make desired change.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I want my patients to recognize that they are not alone, there is no shame in reaching out for help, and probably the greatest gift they can give to themselves is the time and space to work on improving their mental health.
