Today we’d like to introduce you to Taeya Sherman.
Hi Taeya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My professional journey began in community corrections, where I worked closely with individuals reentering society after incarceration—helping connect them with employment opportunities, substance abuse resources, housing, and mental health support. That experience gave me a strong foundation in leadership, advocacy, and understanding the importance of creating systems that genuinely support people. In 2019, I transitioned into the cannabis industry and quickly advanced into regional management, overseeing dispensary operations across multiple states including Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, Maryland, and Arkansas. Along the way, I also became a professor teaching cannabis education, covering topics ranging from compliance and dispensary operations to cultivation fundamentals and industry regulations. Today, I combine all of those experiences through my work with CannaRoots Compliance Group, where I assist dispensaries nationwide with compliance, launches, operational development, hiring, and employee training. As a cannabis industry professional and educator, coming up on my seven years anniversary I have been immersed in multi-state operations, compliance, and retail leadership—helping businesses grow while staying aligned with complex and evolving regulations, while building strong teams and creating systems where compliance, cultivation, and customer experience work seamlessly together. For fun my family and I have also started are Youtube Channel and hope to continue growing that platform of family fun and love together as well!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road, but I believe the challenges are what shaped me into the professional I am today. Working in both community corrections and the cannabis industry taught me very quickly how important resilience and adaptability are. In cannabis especially, the laws and regulations are constantly changing from state to state, so staying educated and compliant is an ongoing process. I’ve also heard “no” many times throughout my career—whether it was opportunities, ideas, or trying to break into spaces where I had to prove myself—but I never allowed that to stop me. Instead, I used those moments as motivation to keep learning, growing, and refining my skills. One of my biggest priorities has always been making sure I provide the best possible service and guidance to every client, student, employee, or business I work with, and that level of responsibility takes consistency, passion, and a willingness to keep evolving with the industry.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I specialize in cannabis education, curriculum development, and dispensary operations. A large part of my work focuses on teaching college students about the cannabis industry—from compliance and dispensary operations to cultivation science and patient care—while also developing courses that help prepare the next generation of cannabis professionals. In addition to education, I am currently working on launching a dispensary in Alabama as the Director of Dispensing, where I’m helping build operational systems, compliance standards, employee training, and patient-focused experiences from the ground up.
What I’m most proud of is my continuous growth and the opportunity to remain deeply immersed in such a rapidly evolving industry. I’ve worked hard to stay connected to every side of cannabis—education, compliance, operations, retail leadership, and consulting—which allows me to bring both real-world experience and practical knowledge into everything I do. I’m known for always educating people in this field. Whether I’m speaking with students, colleagues, employees, clients, or even friends, I genuinely enjoy sharing knowledge and helping others better understand the industry. I think what sets me apart is my passion for learning, my willingness to stay connected and informed, and my commitment to making cannabis education approachable, professional, and impactful for everyone I work with.
Outside of my professional work, I recently started a YouTube channel with my family, which has been such an exciting and rewarding experience for us. It’s given us another platform to connect with people, share parts of our journey, and continue building community through education and authenticity. We’re hoping to continue growing the channel, and our next big goal is reaching 5,000 followers.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me or collaborate with me by connecting with me through my LinkedIn channels or reaching out directly through my work phone number. I always like to schedule virtual meetings first so we can get to know each other, discuss goals, and see how our visions and opportunities align. I truly value building genuine professional relationships and finding meaningful ways to collaborate within the cannabis industry, education, and business development spaces.
You can also support me and my family by following our YouTube channel, ShermanSeven, as we continue growing our content and building our platform together. We genuinely appreciate every person who follows, watches, likes, and engages with our content, and we’re excited to continue growing our community as we work toward our next goal of 5,000 followers.
