Meet Siera Airgood of Mentor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Siera Airgood.

Hi Siera, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I went to Brown Aveda cosmetology school starting in 2013. I completed the 1800 hour advance cosmetology program. I obtained my advanced cosmetology license and my independent contractors license in 2014. I started my career at Lady Jane’s Hair Cuts for men. I advanced quickly and got promoted to manager. After two years cutting only men’s hair, I needed a change. I moved to Willoughby Ohio before having my son in 2017 and started working at a full service, Aveda concept salon. There I trained under seasoned stylist and took a lot of classes to further my knowledge and perfect my techniques. Over the 6 years at a commission salon I built up a strong client base. I then started working for my self, renting a chair at Roots Salon. There I met Hayley my now business partner. Hayley and I continued to grow our individual businesses, and eventually we decided to leave roots after just a little under two years of working there together. Moving salons is always scary as you run the risk of losing some clients. Thankfully Hayley and I found our salon home just 8 minutes away from where we were before. On Nov 1 2024 we opened HeadSpace Salon in Studio 20 Salons on Mentor Ave. Hayley and I crafted HeadSpace together, creating a warm, inviting, and fun atmosphere. We share a salon suite now but are looking to have a larger salon together in the future!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was definitely a transition going from a commission salon to becoming your own boss. While being independent definitely has a lot of perks. It is still a challenge to supply everything yourself. There’s definitely a lot more involved in running a business when you’re doing it on your own. Thankfully sharing a salon suite with Hayley has been helpful to both of us. Being able to shoulder the responsibility with someone else makes things more manageable. While the salon is our home away from home, it can be a challenge to keep a good work/life balance. Having amazing clients who understand boundaries and a supportive family has been a true blessing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in corrective color, blonding services, and hair extensions. My clients call me a hair magician and a”Hairapist” . While I am able to replicate an inspiration photo, my clients most appreciate the personal connection we share. Hayley and I both strive to not only provide excellent service and great hair results but also make people feel seen and heard. We named our salon headspace not only because we’re working on people’s heads, but also because we want our clients to leave the salon feeling better than before. Our connection to our clients is what ultimately sets apart from others. They are our extended family.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
We keep up with current hair trends by following top stylists and brands in the industry. Using education tools like behind the chair to continue to grow and evolve our skills.

Pricing:

  • Our hair cut prices go based off of time and not gender. We do this not only because current hairstyles are sometimes gender fluid, but to also to better accommodate the various needs of our clients
