Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Kane
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Absolutely! I started cosmetology school in 2016 at Brown Aveda! I was in the advanced cosmetology program, which equated to about a year of schooling. I learned SO much during school. It started off very overwhelming, with so much information to take in… but quickly became something I loved.
I always had a love and passion for art. When I was young, I loved to paint. As I came into my teen years, my medium switched to makeup. I loved playing with makeup and learning new techniques. Once I started cosmetology school, my love for hair exploded. I knew I was exactly where I needed to be.
After completing 1800 hours, I graduated, passed my state exam and was officially a licensed cosmetologist.
I spent time working at 2 salons. I learned more during my time at these salon then I ever knew was possible. From hair, to life and even myself, I soaked up as much information as I could.
I decided 6 years into my career I was ready for the next step – opening a studio salon. I was scared, terrified actually. But my family, friends and clients had so much love and support for me. They pushed me in ways I didn’t know I needed. They supported me through every up and down. I couldn’t be more grateful for the people in my life.
I have had my studio salon for 3 years now and I can genuinely say it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I get to do exactly what I love. I have the best clients in the world! My family and friends have continued to support me through everything, always picking me up when I need it most. I couldn’t imagine my life being anywhere else.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing worth having is smooth sailing.
This is something I constantly remind myself. Of course there are ups and downs! I’ve had ups and downs from school all the way to present day. But I keep going. I’ve dealt with self-doubt, insecurity, fear, anxiety… anything you could imagine! But the people I keep close to me, always remind me to keep going.
I think that’s the beauty of it. If you don’t have the lows, you can’t appreciate the highs. If I didn’t feel scared and fearful, I wouldn’t recognize the excitement and the amazing community I’ve been able to build and be apart of! It’s worth it, just keep going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hairstylist & a permanent jewelry artist!!
I specialize in lived-in color.! My clients love having a beautiful color while still being able to go a few months between appointments. Creating color that enhances the natural beauty is something I crave. I love making people feel amazing, confident and beautiful. I love working with both blondes and brunettes! My red hair ladies have a special place in my heart. Anything color related – I’m obsessed with!
I also offer permanent jewelry! This has been SO much fun and SO loved! From bracelets, anklets to rings, necklaces and hand chains.. adding sparkle is so much fun. This allows anyone to wear jewelry without worrying about taking it on and off!
I’m so proud of my salon, Rose & Co. Studio. I’m proud of my work and I’m proud that my clients continue to choose me! I think the relationships that I get to build while behind the chain are so special. I see people of all kinds and have a unique and amazing relationship with all of them. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. There are so many amazing and talented stylists out there.. and my people continue to choose me time and time again. I can’t even begin to express what that means to me. I am forever grateful. Forever & ever.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people don’t know.. but I am ambidextrous! It’s something I never paid much attention to because it always felt natural. I don’t really have a “dominant” hand.
When I was little, my parents pick up on it during sports. Whether it was from my hands or my feet, I was constantly switching and using both sides!
Some of my clients have pick up on it in the salon! I typically color hair with my left hand, cut hair with my right hand. I’ll round brush with my left hand and curl with my right!
