Today we’d like to introduce you to Rae Gentry.
Hi Rae, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a bartender for over 20 years.
I’ve also worked hospitality management, booked shows and have been a touring fire performer.
I’ve always loved The Foundry and have worked there off and on for 20 years, and when I had the opportunity to buy it I jumped!
The opportunity then presented itself to take over a larger venue in Lakewood, The Mercury Music Lounge, so I’ve been working on developing that for the past year as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. Independent music venues are a dying breed. Besides the daily challenges of operating a music venue…
The Foundry’s old location flooded multiple times in the basement, there was a week long power outage in Lakewood, and last year we had to re-locate the venue to Cleveland when the landlords did not renew our lease.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a BA in Psychology and I worked as a social worker doing crisis intervention and suicide prevention out of college.
I’ve also bartended since I was 21.
I was a touring fire performer as well
What matters most to you? Why?
I’m very passionate about the local scene and having a place for people to go that is inclusive.
