Today we’d like to introduce you to Mollie Mason.
Hi Mollie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I actually started on a completely different path, going to school for elementary teaching and special education. While I always had an appreciation for art, I never realized it was my true calling until I picked up a paintbrush one day. Everything changed when I sold my first painting at 22 years old—seeing how much other people resonated with my work sparked an instant obsession. I knew I wanted to create art that made people happy, but I also wanted to build a sustainable career, so I dedicated myself to relentlessly practicing, refining my skills, and searching for my unique artistic voice.
That breakthrough moment came when I stumbled across live wedding painting on TikTok. I was instantly hooked. I offered to paint a friend’s wedding as a gift just to get my feet wet, and the moment I stepped up to the canvas, I fell in love with the adrenaline and the rush of creating onsite. It has taken a few years of hard work to perfect my process, but today, I’m able to complete finished paintings live in just four to six hours, and my calendar is booked out a year in advance.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In a way, it’s been both. On the business side, the live wedding painting market isn’t overly saturated, which allowed me to quickly establish myself and rise to become one of the top-rated wedding painters in the Cleveland area.
However, the logistical side has definitely had its hurdles. Showing up consistently while managing a busy personal life, raising children, and working full-time during the week as an elementary art teacher means I wear a lot of hats. Balancing a teaching career, motherhood, and entrepreneurship is a constant juggling act, and there are seasons when my art business inevitably has to take the back seat so I can show up for my family and my students. It’s a beautiful chaos, but finding that equilibrium is definitely a continuous journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At my core, I am a live wedding painter and watercolor guest portrait artist. When I first launched Mollie Mason Art in the spring of 2022, I honestly wasn’t sure what direction it would take. But by October of that year, I leaped into live wedding painting and things took off faster than I ever could have dreamed. In 2025, I expanded my services to include live watercolor guest portraits, which skyrocketed in popularity—sometimes even rivaling the main wedding paintings! Now, I’m incredibly blessed to book all kinds of live events year-round. Looking back, I am most proud of just how far this business has come in such a short time.
What truly sets me apart in this industry is my intense focus on the bride and groom. My signature style is realistic and painterly with an impressionistic touch, and I purposely make the couple larger on the canvas to keep them the focal point. Most importantly, I include as much detail as possible—including their faces. I hear from my collectors all the time that they specifically chose me because I don’t shy away from painting facial features. Capturing those genuine, recognizable expressions live is my favorite challenge, and it’s what makes the final piece so deeply personal.
How do you define success?
To me, success is waking up every single day with the inner peace that you are on the right path. It’s the practice of continuously setting attainable goals—no matter how small they might seem—and always finding a way to try, learn, and move forward. Success isn’t a final destination or a sprint; it’s a marathon. It is completely okay to stop, rest, and breathe when you need to, but it’s about having the resilience to never give up on yourself.
