Meet Mary Bouyer of Toledo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Bouyer.

Hi Mary, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It started with a dream I had at the age of 8 years old. In 2013, I was given a call by a publisher saying they want to publish my book. They had seen me viewing there sight. I knew I was working on a children’s book but I did not remember searching for a publisher. I had little knowledge about self publishing verses traditional publishing I went for it and published my book. They gave me a 50% off deal. I thought was great. I paid only $1000. My publication went to hell the first day of publication. The publication company do not edit children’s book. In order for me to fix anything was $300 extra. It was $17. A copy. They gave me 10 copies and 10 ebook tabs. with my order, Flyers and Campaign Flyers.. The sad part was when church members told everyone I plagiarized which did not happen. But, it was enough to get a stir. I did not sell well. My dedication page had a wrong choice word. “Who’s” or “Whose”. Every so often they called asking for money to market my book.
In 2017, I paid $600 to have my book in the gallery and bookstore. They did not have it in the LA times festival bookstore. They gave me $2 times 5 books in a royalty check. The books so called got damaged in a thunderstorm. I republished after attending the LA times festival where I learned a lot. I was on book number 10.
By, 2014 through createspace I learned to do it for myself. By 2021, I opened my own online publishing company in Toledo. It is still in progress but more to come soon.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I said it all in the story. I have been losing more then I put in. Inspire of everything that goes down I won’t give up. Giving up on me is giving up on God.
This is more then about the business but the message. I offer Bible studies and created a private group on Facebook called God Created Me. I help others get a closer walk with God.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Christian Artist. I create my own songs, art, and stories. I also design apparel with God fearing messages.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I am hoping to have an book publishing and Apparel store with and art gallery features more published art from Toledo Christian Artist.
