Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucretia Stenson
Lucretia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Meet Lucretia, a seasoned Level 1 Aerial Dance Instructor and captivating Aerial Circus Performer with over 5 years of experience. She has mesmerized audiences in productions like Crooked River Circus’ “How the Circus Stole Christmas” and Obediya’s “Fairy in the Lake.”
Lucretia began her aerial journey in 2018 at Be Fitness and other studios around Cleveland. Not only a performer but also a producer, she is currently working on her aerial biopic “Flyy Girl,” which showcases her journey of overcoming imposter syndrome while staying dedicated to the art of aerial dance. The show was live at The Cleveland Boarderlight Festival, on the playhouse square.
Recently, Lucretia broke her ankle and is in the healing process. However, she believes that on the other side of healing is victory and plans to enjoy the B-side of her aerial journey soon. Passionate about collaborating, Lucretia looks forward to exciting future projects and the opportunity to work with fellow artists in creating breathtaking performances in Cleveland and beyond.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey hasn’t been easy. Overcoming imposter syndrome was a significant challenge after the COVID Pandemic requiring immense mental strength and perseverance. Recently, I broke my ankle adding to the adversity but slowing down is a blessing in disguise. I truly believe that on the other side of healing is victory.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in aerial arts with a particular passion for aerial dance on the hammock. I’m especially proud of mastering this art, which began at age 29 and perfected by 35. Despite having no prior dance background, I took a leap of faith, and it has truly paid off.
By day, I work as a Senior Technical Operations Specialist, a role that is a polar opposite to my craft. This contrast makes my achievements in aerial dance even more fulfilling.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Crooked River Circus for their unwavering support and for always pushing me to new heights in my aerial journey. I also want to thank Be Fitness and Sky Circus for giving me the freedom to express myself as an instructor. Lastly, a special thanks to my son for encouraging me to do something for myself, as I’m often focused on doing things for others.
