Meet Kit Yoon of Yoon Acupuncture & Coaching, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kit Yoon

Hi Kit , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Thailand, in a little city on the outskirts of Bangkok. I spent a lot of time with my maternal grandmother who spent most of her time either in the garden or in the kitchen, growing and making food from scratch. I came to the US for high school, stayed for college and beyond.

Growing up, I wanted to be two things: a doctor and a teacher. Oh! I also pretended to own a restaurant and forced my family members to eat the pretend food I made. In college, I majored in Biology and thought about pursuing medicine seriously, but I knew I didn’t want to go about it the conventional way.

When my then boyfriend (now my husband) was going through cancer treatments, I kept thinking that there’s got to be something natural that could help him with the side effects of chemotherapy. I remembered the early days in the garden with my grandmother who would plug leaves and vines, pull roots and twigs to make concoctions for us when we were sick.

That was when I researched alternative ways of healing and came across Traditional Chinese Medicine which seemed like the most comprehensive of all. I practiced acupuncture and other Chinese medicine modalities (cupping, herbal medicine, tuina massage, etc) for a few years before adding other modalities to my tool kit.

It was clear to me that sometimes my patients needed more than one option. Over the years, I added coaching, reflexology, hypnotherapy and intuitive eating counseling to my repertoire. It is such a privilege to be able to help so many people feel better, eat better, live a healthier and more fulfilling life for themselves.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I started a private practice before having my twins. That was short lived because I wanted to spend most of my time with the babies, so I intentionally maintained a small practice when the kids were little. I called in my “jobby.”

Once the kids started school and I had more predictable time for myself, I started practicing again. First I joined a community acupuncture clinic, then I branched out to open my own business.

Everything was going famously until COVID hit in 2020 and since then I have been moving my practice around quite a bit – for many reasons. The other challenge that I have come across is to define exactly who I treat – what my niche is. While I am capable of treating everyone and everything, it’s difficult to market that way. In the recent years, I have been enjoying working with people like me: women in our middle years, empty nesters, perimenopausal, in transition physically and emotionally.

We’ve been impressed with Yoon Acupuncture & Coaching, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My integrative medicine practice customizes treatments for women looking to find balance, feel comfortable in their own skin, experience more peace and less stress.

I am known to combine Chinese medicine modalities like acupuncture and cupping with clinical hypnosis and coaching to help my patients and clients feel at ease, empowered and vital.

I also offer Intuitive / Mindful Coaching packages separately which is available to everyone via virtual meetings. This is specifically for midlife women who are feeling uncomfortable in their own skin, eating against their will, and wanting to feel better physically and emotionally. I help them adjust their lifestyle and eating habits so that they can eat well and feel well sustainably.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people are surprised that I am bilingual and bicultural. Because I grew up in Thailand and my whole family is still back there, I definitely straddle between two languages, two worlds, two or more ways of thinking and doing things! I’d like to think of this part of me as an asset!
