Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Pate.
Hi Jill, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Jill! I’ve known since I was young that I wanted to be a nurse. Growing up with a sibling who battled childhood cancer, I saw firsthand how deeply nurses can touch not only the lives of their patients but also their families. That experience made me want to help others the way those incredible nurses helped us.
I started my career as an Emergency Room nurse at Riverside Methodist Hospital, an experience I’ll always be grateful for. I loved every fast-paced, unpredictable second of it and learned more than I ever imagined. That time gave me the confidence to care for patients of all ages and backgrounds, from the most critical emergencies to everyday health concerns.
As my passion for patient care grew, I wanted to help on a deeper level so I went back to school, earned my Master’s degree from Otterbein University, and became a Family Nurse Practitioner.
I spent several years with OhioHealth Urology, caring for patients with erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, cancers, and voiding dysfunctions. Urology patients face some of the most personal and vulnerable challenges, and through that work, I quickly realized how strongly physical and emotional health are connected. Many of my patients were also struggling with anxiety, depression, and sleep issues, and our visits often turned into moments of real, heartfelt connection. I began to see how much our community needed providers who could bridge that gap between mental and physical wellness and I knew I wanted to be part of that change.
That realization led me to earn my Post-Master’s Certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and to found Amalfi Mental Health — a space created to support true, whole-person wellness by uniting mind and body care.
Today, I’m honored to work with a diverse and inspiring group of patients, including members of the transgender community and our local first responders. My goal is to create a safe, affirming, and empowering space where people can heal, learn, and grow.
I truly love what I do, and I feel incredibly grateful every day to help others become the healthiest, happiest, and most authentic version of themselves.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Leaving a large organization like OhioHealth to start my own practice was one of the scariest, yet most rewarding, decisions I’ve ever made. It’s been both wildly fun and wildly challenging. I’ve learned that living up to your potential often means facing fear head-on and taking leaps of faith before you feel ready.
What surprised me most was realizing that my biggest challenges weren’t coming from outside circumstances, they were coming from within. The doubts, the “what ifs,” and the fear of the unknown were often louder than any real obstacle. But every time I chose to move forward instead of letting fear take the lead, I uncovered new strengths and capabilities I didn’t know I had.
Even now, I still have hesitations, especially when it comes to hiring, expanding, and growing something that feels so personal. Growth can be scary, but I’m learning to trust the process and remind myself that I’m on my way to building something truly great and beautiful. The more people I’m able to help, the more I realize that every moment of fear has been completely worth it.
This journey has shown me that real growth lives just beyond the comfort zone. Each challenge has shaped me into a more confident, grounded, and resilient practitioner, and for that, I’m truly grateful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Amalfi Mental Health/Amalfi First Line?
At Amalfi Mental Health and Amalfi First Line, we believe true wellness means caring for the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. Our mission is to bridge the gap between mental and physical medicine and to help people find lasting balance, confidence, and their true sense of self.
The name Amalfi was inspired by the Amalfi Coast in Italy, the most breathtaking place I’ve ever been. Its beauty, calm, and effortless sense of well-being left a lasting impression on me. I wanted my practice to reflect that same feeling, a place that embodies beauty, class, peace, and overall well-being.
At Amalfi, we provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care, including medication management, psychotherapy, and wellness services. We specialize in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, sleep disorders, and stress-related conditions. What truly sets us apart is our integrated approach — we look beyond symptoms to understand the full picture of each person’s life and health.
Our team of nurse practitioners and social workers bring a collaborative energy that patients can feel the moment they walk through our doors. We’re especially proud to serve First Responders, Veterans, and members of the transgender community, offering care that is both clinically excellent and deeply affirming.
At Amalfi, our goal is to redefine what mental health care feels like, combining medical expertise with genuine compassion and connection. We want every patient to feel seen, supported, and empowered on their path to healing and wholeness.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is knowing I’m living my purpose — helping others heal, grow, and become the best version of themselves. Seeing a patient gain hope, confidence, or peace that they hadn’t felt in years is incredibly fulfilling.
I also love being outside in the sunshine, spending time with my husband and kids, and watching my kids grow and explore who they are. Helping them find little joys in life and really feel their happiness makes my heart full.
I’m definitely an extrovert. I thrive on connection, conversation, and laughter. I love meeting new people, hearing their stories, and sharing those real, human moments. Life feels happiest for me when I’m helping others, building connections, and soaking up all the little joys along the way.
