Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Adkins.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After spending my 20s working as a nanny, I felt a strong pull to pursue something I had been curious about since shortly after high school: massage therapy. I wanted a hands-on career that would help others feel safe and free in their bodies—one that also offered the flexibility to care for my family without having to choose between work and home life.
In 2019, I applied to Cuyahoga Community College and was accepted into their Massage Therapy program. I took night classes while continuing to nanny, and when by October 2020, I had earned my license from the Ohio Medical Board as a Massage Therapist. I stayed an additional semester to earn my Advanced Massage Therapy Certificate and, soon after, launched my own business—White Moth Wellness.
White Moth Wellness officially opened in October 2020 in a small shared space at the gym I attended. A few months later, I transitioned into my own office space in Downtown Willoughby. Though I experienced a few office moves in the years that followed, I remained committed to building strong client relationships and growing my practice. In that time, I also earned my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification and completed training in Nutrition Response Testing, expanding the holistic wellness offerings of my business.
Today, I run a steady, heart-led practice in Downtown Painesville, where I support clients from all walks of life. My work brings together therapeutic massage, movement, and functional wellness to help people reconnect with their bodies and feel truly supported. It has been a deeply fulfilling journey, and I’m grateful to be doing work that allows me to care for others while honoring the rhythms and needs of my own family.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but each challenge taught me something valuable. Balancing school, work, motherhood, and multiple office changes—especially during the uncertainty of the pandemic—was incredibly demanding. Like many small business owners, I started with limited resources and had to navigate everything from inconsistent income to finding the right space and building a steady client base from the ground up.
There were moments when office moves disrupted my flow, and times when I questioned whether I could truly make this work. But I kept showing up—with consistency, heart, and a commitment to learning as I went. Over time, I built a business rooted in trust, community, and care, and I’m proud of the resilience it took to get here.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
White Moth Wellness is a heart-led massage and holistic wellness practice located in Downtown Painesville, Ohio. Rooted in deep presence, gentle strength, and intentional care, I specialize in therapeutic massage that supports nervous system regulation, lymphatic flow, and deep emotional and physical release. My approach is slow, grounding, and deeply nurturing—offering a space where clients can truly exhale.
Beyond massage, I also offer yoga instruction, nutrition response testing, and wellness consultations to support clients in addressing the root causes of imbalance. I use organic, cold-pressed oils and essential oils, and offer add-ons such as therapeutic cupping, hot stones, and infrared PEMF mat therapy for a fully customized experience.
What sets White Moth Wellness apart is the way I work—intuitively, relationally, and holistically. I don’t offer one-size-fits-all services; each session is built around the client’s current needs, energy, and long-term goals. I’m not here to “fix” anyone, but to support their healing process with consistency, care, and respect.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that clients describe the space and work as deeply calming, restorative, and unlike anything they’ve experienced elsewhere. I’ve created a little sanctuary where people can feel seen, heard, and held—and that means everything to me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe what some might call “luck” has often felt like God’s timing and provision in my life. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have a supportive husband who believed in my vision from the very beginning. He helped fund my business when it was just an idea and encouraged me to go all in, giving me the stability and confidence I needed to get started.
One of the biggest turning points came when I was offered a room in the heart of Downtown Willoughby early on. That opportunity arrived at exactly the right time and played a huge role in helping me grow my clientele. The location’s visibility and convenience made it much easier to establish a strong foundation.
And honestly, I feel lucky every single day to have the clients I do. So many have stuck with me through office moves and seasons of change. They value my work, support what I’m building, and continually remind me why I chose this path in the first place.
