Meet Jenn Harte

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Harte.

Jenn Harte

Hi Jenn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was 17, I was at my college orientation at Ohio University, completing a form that would set the course for my entire life. This was on paper because it was 1998, and I had to circle my chosen major. I highly considered Dietetics but was advised accounting majors founds excellent jobs after college. Easily swayed by the prospect of being a powerful businesswoman, that was my educational and career choice.

I quickly became a CPA and practiced in Cleveland for eight years. Throughout my 20s, I was still pulled toward health and fitness despite working ungodly hours. I started practicing yoga at 26, and at 28, I decided to do a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training at Cleveland Yoga. Once certified, I kept training, overhauled my diet, and started teaching in 2009.

The pull was too strong, and I decided to leave the accounting firm and pursue my yoga career. It was a matter of time before I returned to school for a health and wellness education. In 2013, I completed the Health Coaching program through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and in 2018 attended Bauman College for Nutrition Consulting.

I have landed as a thriving yoga teacher at Cleveland Yoga and Health Coach, working one-on-one with clients. My clients have various goals and needs, from weight loss to establishing home cooking habits, workout goals, or seeking support to improve their relationship with food. A couple of times throughout the year, I will offer group programs that focus on food and nutrition education and teach how food interacts with our body from digestion and beyond.

Over 25 years, I have learned that all experiences make up a person, and I have no regrets about my detour. It’s clear that following a passion is key in life, but side trips along the way add dimension, depth, and gratitude.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My previous answer helped with this question. However, it was not all easier said than done. It was an emotional and mental struggle to give up a career I worked hard for. Being a CPA was not my calling, but I put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into creating success in my 20s. PLUS, there were a lot of opinions from others as to my career pivot, and letting go of the judgment was another struggle.

On top of that, I was definitely on a lucrative path. I was forgoing the potential of making Partner at the firm and higher paydays. I forgot to mention I got married at 23 and had the MOST supportive husband. The decision was made together; ultimately, happiness was the final answer, and we knew where there was a will, there was a way. We made it work.

Shortly after leaving the accounting firm and working at the yoga studio, we got pregnant and had a baby boy in 2011. The career change allowed me to pursue my passions and be a very present mother.

We’ve been impressed with Jenn Harte, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Living a healthy life is a concept that sounds simple, yet many of us struggle. There is either insufficient time, it’s too confusing, too overwhelming, or people don’t know where to begin.

I aim to eliminate the overwhelm and be a partner and guide to support people on their health journey. As a Health Coach, I dedicate 12 weeks to each client. To maintain consistency, we meet weekly on Zoom or phone. In week one, the client creates their vision/goal of who they want to be or what they want to accomplish. Each week thereafter, we work together to create small actions that build them toward their ultimate goal.

Like anything, consistency and accountability are key, and having someone by your side increases your likelihood of success.

One-on-One Coaching is definitely a commitment for the client, and they truly have to want it! Not everyone is sure or needs to test the waters. This fall and I am rolling out a new online group program focused on establishing healthy habits before the holidays!! Stay tuned!

My business is my name because I can only teach what I practice and be a living example of health. I have taught yoga and led Clean Eating Group Programs in my local community for 14 years. It’s what I am known for, and through my consistency have established trust, relationships, and a reputation as a coach, leader, and educator.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
Outside of a ginormous career change, I am a reasonably risk-averse person. I am pretty calculated and want to have some understanding of possible outcomes. I also know I can trust myself, and that is huge. Since I got my first job at 15, I have always been a hard worker and managed to make “it work.” I believe if I put in the effort, the dividends will come. The risk of starting a whole new professional life was not that scary because it felt “right.”

There is risk in anything where the outcome is unknown. We take risks every day, most small, but still, we never do know how a day will go. Regardless of how big or small a risk is, we are guided by an inner knowing. Each of us has pulls or nudges that drive our daily decisions.

Change can feel big, fast, and drastic when a nudge is ignored for too long. But everyone knows when their gut is calling out to them, and despite the fear of the risk, there is a feeling that it’s right and worth pursuing.

I also love reflecting on all the significant changes I have made. There may have been fear or doubt at the time, but I always came out with lessons learned, greater confidence, and gratitude for the risk. Our past challenges shed light on what we are capable of doing today.
