Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Deeter.
Hi Jen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I think I’ve always had a talent for photography, and I’ve always been a huge nerd. I consider myself a gamer. I love video games; tabletop games and D&D is one of my passions. As a young adult, I fell in love with cosplay and ventured into the cosplay world for quite some time. So, I have spent some time being the one in front of the camera. The nerd inside me started attending LARP events around Ohio and picked up a camera to take pictures of other payers in their garb to gain inspiration for my own character and I realized that pictures I was taking at LARP events were pretty good. I even had a friend who told me that one of the pictures I took of them made them feel beautiful, more so than any picture they could remember. After a while, I felt like I was pigeonholing myself into the cosplay/LARP niche, so I began shooting more fantasy and boudoir, which led to me eventually starting my own business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think building a reputation or a business is ever a smooth road. You may have a group of passionate people who love your work but if you can’t bring in new faces you can get really stagnate and lose your passion; I have faced that hurdle a few times. The growth just not happening or dying altogether even compounded by issues like Covid. During times like these, I try to use the opportunity to hone in my craft and exploring new product or concepts that add to my portfolio or find new processes that help with booking and keeping those connections with clients
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I run a fantasy and Boudoir photography studio out of Columbus, Ohio. I believe your wildest fantasy can become reality. I take a lot pride in building relationships with clients, paying attention to those little details, getting to know you, and helping you bring ideas to life. I want you to always think of asking me to come and perverse all those lifetime memories. I specialize in making you feel like you just walked out of a fantasy novel, making you laugh and smile though the process. The end goal is to bring your fantasy to life.
