Meet Jaelynn Gordon of Dayton Driving School

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaelynn Gordon.

Hi Jaelynn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I graduated from Northmont High School class of 2016. After graduation, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Wright State University. At the time, my dream was to become an orthopedic surgeon. However, halfway through my master’s program in anatomy, I realized that what I truly wanted was to help people. While I would have helped patients as a surgeon, I didn’t want to spend nearly a decade in school before I could begin making a real impact. So I made the difficult decision to drop out.
In the years that followed, I worked various jobs while searching for a career path that would allow me to earn a good living, help people on a larger scale, and start making a difference sooner rather than later.
Then, by chance, my boyfriend came across a newly passed law that changed the requirements for obtaining a driver’s license. It raised the mandatory driving school age requirement from 18 to 21 for everyone under the age of 21. We immediately saw this as not only an excellent business opportunity, but also as a way to help others.
So in October of 2025 we formed Dayton Driving School and two months later in December we officially got licensed by the state of Ohio and began operations! We immediately started thinking of ways that we can give back and help others and shortly after, we created the Scholarship program where we will be giving away the state required driving school course to a few kids for free!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like anything in life there is always challenges, I think the biggest challenge I faced was dropping out of college and then starting my own business. Both of these things were way outside of my comfort zone and were not easy to commit too!

We’ve been impressed with Dayton Driving School, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dayton Driving School is a Class D driving school. Our first location is in Vandalia and we recently just opened up a second location in Troy! We are growing rapidly and I believe it is because we have a more modern approach to driver education. Everything is designed to make the whole process as stress free as possible for the students and parents, we work around our students schedules and don’t force them to work around ours. The sign up process is easy and straightforward, we offer the 24 hour course online for students to be able to move at their own pace and we take drivers ed seriously, especially the 8 hours behind the wheel, we are extremely careful in regards to who we hire as driving instructors! All driving instructors are required to be licensed by the state of Ohio but we are not just looking for instructors who can complete the training to obtain the license but we only hire instructors who understand the seriousness of the job but who are also patient, kind and have the right kind of personality to make it not only educational but enjoyable for our students. All of these things are some of the reasons why we believe we are seeing the success that we have been blessed to achieve this early into the journey!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I was not a risk taker at all before my boyfriend and I got together. He has pushed me to get outside of my comfort zone and try new things, he has taught me that it is okay to fail. I think a lot of people are scared to take risks because they are afraid of failure. But I believe failure is where the majority of growth happens. There is so much to learn from our failures if we give allow ourselves to look at the glass half full!
