Meet Jade Martin of Brookville, OH

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Martin.

Hi Jade, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My husband is in the Air Force and was stationed in California in April of 2023. I was 9 months pregnant at the time, due in May with our second baby girl. I became a stay at home mom and had always loved baking. I would make banana bread and mini cheesecakes for friends and neighbors.
I grew up watching Cake Boss and The Great British Baking Show and have always loved watching cake decorating videos/reality shows. January of 2024, I decided that I wanted to teach myself how to decorate cakes. I would practice and give them away to friends and my husband’s coworkers and after my third cake, I finally got the hang of it-a
million google searches and tik tok videos later. I started getting orders and would just charge people for material costs and then when we moved back to Ohio in May 2024, I started a Facebook page to document all of my creations. Once I knew I had the talent for it, I started charging a little more for my skill and time and it’s now an active side hustle for me as a stay at home mom of two toddlers. 🙂

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say yes as far as the support from my husband, friends, and family. My husband funded my path to this “hobby turned side hustle.” I am very thankful to have him. He believed in me and essentially invested in me. My only struggles, if I would even call it that, would just be the learning curves to kitchen chemistry. Figuring out what works and what doesn’t; trial and error, taste testing, research, clientele building, etc. I don’t see all the negatives as struggles, only because I learned from all of it and it’s what got me to where I am now.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I run a home bakery and I specialize in cakes/cupcakes. However, I also make breads, cheesecakes, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered strawberries, cookies, cake pops and more.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I mainly use Tik Tok and YouTube for learning new things.
