Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Revels.
Hi Isaiah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Isaiah Revels, and I’m the founder and CEO of Step Higher, a sports-based marketing company that connects elite high school basketball programs with national and international exposure through high-level events and branding opportunities.
I grew up in a hardworking household as the only child at home for most of my life, until my two younger brothers came along. Being the oldest and setting the tone for them pushed me to lead by example and stay focused on my goals. I’ve always had a deep love for sports, storytelling, and creating opportunities—and eventually, I found a way to bring all of that together.
I started Step Higher because I saw a gap in how young athletes—especially those from underrepresented communities—were being positioned. They’re not just players; they’re brands and future leaders. What began as small, local showcases has grown into large-scale events that feature top high school programs, attract national attention, and create real brand opportunities for athletes.
At the same time, I’ve been building a presence online, with over 40K followers on TikTok and 10K on Instagram. I use my platforms to tell my story, highlight the talent I work with, and give people a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into building a brand like Step Higher.
The journey has come with challenges, but every step has been intentional. My mission is simple: help young athletes step higher—not just in their sport, but in life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road—but every bump has shaped me and the mission behind Step Higher.
Starting a company from scratch with no blueprint, no major backing, and just a vision is tough. Early on, I had to learn everything on the fly—event planning, brand outreach, budgeting, marketing—you name it. There were moments when events didn’t go as planned, partnerships fell through, or I felt like I was putting in way more than I was getting back. There were times when I questioned if people really saw the value in what I was building.
One of the biggest challenges has been balancing growth with sustainability. It’s easy to want to scale fast, but I had to make sure I was building a solid foundation. I’ve had to be creative with limited resources, wear multiple hats, and stay consistent even when the results weren’t immediate.
On top of that, navigating the sports industry—especially as a young Black entrepreneur—comes with its own set of challenges. You constantly have to prove yourself, stay professional, and stay grounded in your purpose.
But every struggle has taught me something. And the hard times made the wins even more meaningful. I’m proud of how far Step Higher has come, and I know the road ahead will have more challenges—but I’m built for it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a Creative Sports Director and founder of Step Higher, I specialize in creating high-level, culturally relevant basketball events that not only showcase elite talent but also elevate the athlete’s brand. I bridge the gap between competition, content, and community—curating experiences that go beyond the scoreboard.
What I do isn’t just event planning. I build platforms. I take an idea—from location to lineup to media coverage—and turn it into something athletes, coaches, fans, and brands want to be part of. Whether it’s coordinating national matchups, building sponsorship activations, or creating social media campaigns that bring it all to life, I stay locked in on making sure everything tells a story. That’s the creative part—knowing how to take a game and turn it into a moment.
I’m probably most known for my eye—whether it’s spotting rising talent early, designing visuals that hit, or orchestrating events with intention. My platforms consistently attract some of the top high school programs and players, and I’m proud that Step Higher has become a respected name in the basketball space, especially among younger athletes looking to grow their exposure.
What sets me apart is my ability to mix creativity with structure. I’m not just thinking about what looks cool—I’m thinking about the brand value, the experience, and the long-term impact. I also stay hands-on. Whether I’m behind the scenes editing content, on the court during game day, or pitching a brand deal—I’m in it.
I’m most proud of staying true to my vision while continuing to evolve. This isn’t just about sports—it’s about giving athletes a real platform to be seen, celebrated, and set up for what’s next.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about Cincinnati is the underrated potential. There’s a real sense of grit here—people work hard, and there’s a lot of talent and creativity, especially in the youth and sports space. The city has a rich basketball culture that doesn’t always get the spotlight it deserves, and I love being able to help bring more visibility to that through my work. The community support runs deep, and when people see you trying to build something real, they’ll stand behind you.
What I like least is the networking side of things—or really, the lack of consistent collaboration between creators, business leaders, and people in different spaces. There’s a lot of individual talent, but not enough bridges being built between them. Sometimes it feels like people stay in their own pockets, which can limit how far and fast the city can grow as a whole. I’d love to see more intentional connections and resources for entrepreneurs, creatives, and athletes to come together, share game, and build bigger.
