Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Maryanovsky.
Hi Grace, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I was young, I always had a love for art and anything creative. I used to draw a lot when I was a child. When I was a teenager, I became more interested in makeup as my creative outlet. I shadowed a professional makeup artist for my Senior project in high school and realized that is what I wanted to do for my career. I graduated high school in 2018 and also did my first ever bridal makeup in the same year.
Fast forward to 2019, I started beauty school at Brown Aveda in Mentor. I graduated and got my esthetics license at the end of that year. When COVID hit, salon closures set me back. However, it gave me time to reflect on my goals and create a game plan for building a career in the beauty industry. I started working in a salon setting when salons were starting to reopen. After a couple years building a clientele and getting hands on experience, I decided to take a leap of faith and go solo. I started my own business in an office space in Mayfield Heights and named it BBGX Studio. (BBGX stands for ‘beautybygracex’ which has been my social handle since I began this journey).
In my studio, I offer lash, brow, and skincare services as well as makeup (bridal, event, photoshoot, etc.) I have hit many exciting milestones in my career and I’m really excited to share my story with Voyage!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all! There are so many periods of growth and challenges you face when running a small business. Once I decided to venture out on my own, I had to start from scratch. I had to adjust to a new location, new clientele, and learn how to wear many hats.
Slow seasons and unexpected obstacles can make or break a business. I believe that the passion I have for my job is what keeps me going, even through the hard times!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a licensed esthetician and professional makeup artist that specializes in lash, brow, skincare treatments, and bridal makeup. I own and operate my own beauty studio, which is also a collaborative space for other beauty service providers to grow their own business.
My most popular services at my studio are lash lifts, brow lamination, waxing, and tinting. I specialize in bridal makeup but have done makeup for special events and photo shoots, as well.
I love the services I offer because I am able to make people feel confident inside and out. I also love how my in-studio aesthetic services complement my on-site makeup services.
I’m most proud of my growth as a makeup artist. I think I’ve become not only more skilled, but also more professional. Seeing my bookings grow year after year has been incredibly rewarding and reminds me that consistency and dedication really do pay off.
I think what sets me apart from others is the experience I provide. There are so many talented service providers, but finding one that is not only skilled, but also communicates well, shows up prepared, and consistently delivers a great experience can make all the difference. My goal isn’t to just give beautiful results but to make my client feel comfortable, confident, and cared for throughout the entire process.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was definitely on the quieter side. Once I got comfortable, I opened up and became much more outgoing.
I’ve always been a creative person and loved anything artistic. I filled up countless pages of notebooks with drawings and ideas. I think this is what led me to work in an industry that combines artistry, creativity, and helping people feel their best.
