Meet Galadriel Olson of Lakewood, OH

Today we’d like to introduce you to Galadriel Olson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We made a big move across the country from Texas to Lakewood, OH in 2021. We are a family of artists and we wanted to find a local art supply shop. To our surprise, there wasn’t one! We joked, at first, that maybe we should open an art supply shop. The more we talked about it, we realized there was really a need for this in the community! We had never opened our own business and had never owned a business before, but after some research, we decided we could actually do this! We were really lucky that we could lean on other local small business owners for support and encouragement!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Ha! I would say not much in business goes completely smoothly! We have definitely had things not go as planned, but our community is the BEST! In times when we have had major issues, i.e. the pipes bursting on Christmas Eve 2022, our customers and other small businesses really stepped in to support us in all kinds of wonderful ways!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are an independent art and craft supply shop! We really cater to our specific community and what they ask us to carry. We have art shows throughout the year that feature local artists’ work! Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for small business owners has probably evolved over the years. I think now, I would say, there is no such thing as perfect! There is no perfect time, because none of us can predict what will happen in the future. There is no such thing as making your shop absolutely perfect before opening because it will change over time. Don’t get so caught up in your vision that you don’t open your doors! Just go for it!
