Meet Ebony S. George of Shugar Babe’s Sweet Confections

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony S. George.

Hi Ebony S., so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It was told to me as a very young tike that I was made of Shugar and Spice and everything nice!

I’ve learned my way around the kitchen early on in life. My grandmother and mother were both beacons along my journey and I often found myself interested in carrying the torch. Baking, decorating and being creative has always been a true love of mine. In fact, I made my very first Peach Cobbler at the tender age of 7, when my mom was asleep. The décor alone is art in itself and came as a natural niche for me. In efforts to foster my craft and talents, I knew I would need to learn the business side of the industry, so I enrolled in Business School and hit the ground running.

Shugar Babe’s specializes in custom made, creative cakes and cupcakes as well as a variety of delectable sweet treats. Nothing is cookie cutter about us! These CREATIONS can be ordered for birthdays, baby showers, graduations, retirements, grand openings, weddings, promotions, engagements and the list goes on and on.

Shugar Babe’s has been featured on Fox 8 News, “Kickin It With Kenny” and absolutely loves meeting you all at local Pop Up Shops throughout the community.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Starting a business is never a smooth road. Being a self-taught beginner cake decorator in a cake world of cake gawds was not easy. Some of my struggles were reaching out to experienced decorators and treat makers and asking for assistance and being told that they were going to charge me for giving their knowledge or they would say, “I’m not giving my secrets” which was very discouraging, so I learned as much as I could on YouTube as well as believing so much in myself and my craft that I did it on my own. That struggle taught me that I would never hold back information that could help someone else out. We all start out as beginners and need a little help sometimes.
