Meet Ebony McCants

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony McCants.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was going through a difficult period in my life, I realized I’d lost my way. Sometimes relationships, circumstances, and choices cloud our mental space, where we’re unable to have a clear mind in assisting us out of unfortunate situations. I’d question my next moves, because who I wanted to become, meant closing doors, owning up to my decisions, and waving goodbye to people. During my depression, I took my love for photography, clothes, and make-up, then mashed them together on social media!

In 2020, I started taking self-portraits of outfits, I’d put pieced together from Goodwill, My Own Creations, Clearance Items, etc. showing other moms and Women how to style themselves on a budget. In the photos, I’d insert text with ‘Positive Affirmations, Quotes, Videos, and other Personal Stories, I’d find or heard from other women in my area. Facebook and Instagram, became my outlet; Hence, the name “Dope Ass Mom, Everyday 365”.

Originally, I’d only used “Dope Ass Mom” as a hashtag on my photos to help others find my creative style and encouragement in the media outlets. Many women supported this “Movement”, helping me to grow as an entrepreneur and as a woman. In the beginning, Dope Ass Mom was only a “Hashtag”/a “Movement”, printed on a T-shirt or Hoodie, now growing into a “Network” for women in need of Physical, Mental, and Social Health.

Over the past two years, I’ve taken Dope Ass Mom into other outlets such as One-On-One interviews with over 100 women sharing similar stories of depression, weight loss/gain, mothering, divorce, life changes, career chasing, change, and the list continues. Being a “Dope Ass Mom” means taking responsibility for you and supporting those other women around you. My purpose is to build a network for women to Heal. I’ve partnered with women in multiple sectors listening to and sharing their stories to help the next woman!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
When you are overcoming your own struggles, it can be difficult trying to heal yourself and others. Self-reflection isn’t easy; However, I choose to be a light which meant coming out of my own darkness of anxiety, depression, self-sabotage, and the Negative Nancies disguised as friends and family. My struggles didn’t show themselves right away! My challenges grew as the buzz grew about the brand. Have you ever heard of “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility”? I’m not a counselor; however, the stories poured in of Domestic Violence, Rape, Infidelity, and much more. Women shared their life stories with me, and I’d sit in their pain with them empathizing and sympathizing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve specialized in Life Healing through creative ways! I’ve taken the stories women have shared with me and provided free make-overs, workshops, ladies’ nights, free personal training opportunities, and photoshoots with my small team. The sessions are a healing opportunity as women open their life’s doors to me and I create beautiful moments. I provide an opportunity for women who’ve forgotten about themselves to embrace their journey and create new moments.

I love shooting digital photographs! I seem to have an eye to always capture the best version of someone, the heart to express compassion and I love seeing people come alive during our sessions. Rather I’m teaching a free fitness class, taking photos, and doing interviews, I provide connection and compassion for women because even a rose can grow through concrete.

Any big plans?
Right now, I’m setting the foundation for a “One-Stop-Shop” for women to heal internally and externally. A place for women to physically come to surround themselves with others in the same or similar circumstances to grow through the struggles together. Rather it is weight loss, career advancement, and building supportive relationships with others, I’m working on a service anyone woman can benefit from during any point in life.
