Meet Danette Martin of Sweetums Signatures, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danette Martin.

Hi Danette, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Sweetums Signatures was never really part of the plan. In my early twenties, I had a corporate position I enjoyed, but it required constant travel. I hated being away from home and dreamed of one day starting a family.

At the same time, I was tinkering with what I thought was just a hobby—creating stickers for my husband’s race car and designing pieces for the home I had just purchased. Once I realized I could create products that other people might love too, I started building the business from hotel rooms while traveling for work.

What began as a creative side project quickly blossomed into a business serving customers around the country. Today, Sweetums Signatures is still rooted in that same passion for creativity, quality, and meaningful work.

When I’m not working, I’m busy with my two kids and all of their activities, and I absolutely love family time and boating at the lake. I truly believe everything happens for a reason—and that if you work hard, anything is possible.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say anyone who owns a business could testify that it’s been a smooth road. “If it were easy, everyone would do it.” When my kids were babies, I worked ALL THE TIME. I would be on my computer day and night with a baby on my lap. It definitely wasn’t and still isn’t easy.

As we continue to grow, I have to make tough decisions along the way. We are now in the process of purchasing a large commercial space at the square in our town. This will be another hurdle, but ultimately I know it will be worth the work!

My family! I could live in a cardboard box if it meant we were all healthy and together. I work hard for them. I love my job, I love what I do and that makes working easy 🙂
