Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I’m a married man and a proud father of two wonderful children. I happen to be my wife’s third child, and our journey into the world of 3D printing has been exhilarating. It all started in the spring of 2021, fueled by my inner child’s love for Marvel, notably Iron Man. After binge-watching the Marvel movies, I became fixated on creating my Iron Man Helmet. And thus, my exploration into 3D printing began. Hours were spent watching YouTube tutorials, learning the ins and outs of this fascinating technology. Finally, I took the plunge and purchased my first 3D printer.
With relentless determination, I delved into the world of 3D printing, starting with basic projects like printing benches and small toys. But the real magic happened when I fulfilled my dream of crafting my Iron Man Helmet. That moment marked the beginning of an obsession that led me to acquire not just one but four 3D printers. Yes, I was hooked. But my newfound passion didn’t just stop at personal projects. Soon, my family and I began creating 3D prints for our kids and other family members. And then came a pivotal moment during a rare family vacation when inspiration struck at a local craft show. With little time to spare, I reached out to the organizers and miraculously secured a spot at the event. Armed with a collection of 3D-printed toys and my son Connor by my side, we embarked on our first craft show adventure. Our response from vendors and customers was overwhelming, and thus, CLE3DPrints was born.
Since that fateful day, my son Connor has become integral to our operations. Currently studying business in college, he brings his expertise to the table, leading our social media communications and serving as our lead designer. Seeing him grow and thrive in this role has been a joy, learning valuable lessons about hard work, responsibility, and respect. As a father, there’s nothing more rewarding than sharing this journey with my son. Together, we’ve built a successful business and forged a bond strengthened by mutual respect and a shared passion for creativity. I couldn’t be prouder of the person he’s become, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to guide him on this path. So here we are, embarking on a journey into the endless possibilities of 3D printing, fueled by passion, creativity, and the unbreakable bond between a father and his son. Together, we’ll continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible and inspire others to dream big.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting something new always comes with a mix of excitement and apprehension. One of the most significant challenges we faced was mastering the intricacies of 3D printing to ensure the highest quality. Countless late nights were spent tweaking settings and adjusting the printer, sometimes until 1 or 2 am, trying to make our prints look great. It wasn’t more challenging than everyone thought, and it took time and perseverance to produce quality prints. Another obstacle was navigating the transition from printing items for myself to providing 3D prints for the public. Thankfully, we had a network of friends who had embarked on similar journeys with their small businesses. Their insights from selling at craft shows and online proved invaluable. From operational tips like mastering our point of sale app to practical advice on packaging and presentation, their guidance smoothed our path considerably. Yet, challenges were still there to overcome. Deciding which items to offer proved to be a daunting task. We faced the dilemma of predicting customer demand and discerning which products would resonate with our audience. Presenting our items effectively in displays required creativity and experimentation. It was a process of trial and error, constantly refining our approach to showcase our products in the most appealing light. We grappled with offering various sizes and price points to cater to varying customer preferences. Finding the right balance between quality and affordability was crucial in establishing value for our customers. Through careful observation and feedback, we honed our product offerings to align with market demand, ensuring value for our customers.

Continually upgrading our print farm is a must so we stay caught up in the technology available for 3D printing. Our design team, “aka my son Connor,” has been honing his skills with software design, already producing unique items for us to sell. We are also expanding our reach to new customer bases as we have begun to travel to shows outside our local area.
