Meet Carolyn Grayson of Bexley Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Grayson.

Hi Carolyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Forest Gump Said” Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what your going to get”. This holds true to my life .
It’s not always easy to reflect on my life’s journey, but I’ve learned my story can be the catalyst for someone else to achieve their goals. I’m a native of Columbus, Ohio. however, life has afforded me the opportunity to live in California, Texas,
One of my gifts is a visionary and I saw myself creating beautiful digital art, designing websites, flyers, etc long before I put a plan into action and birthed Dreamcatchers Designs and Consults. I was raised in the church and learned business acumen from my parents. From sitting with them in board meetings, overheard them negotiating deals, and creating community outreach services. A unique or fund fact is I’m adopted at 6 weeks old my birth mother said she needed a break and asked my parents to watch me, five years later whelp she was still on her break. After years of searching and lawyers nd much prayer my parents were able to adopt me. Collectively, they instilled the importance of Education , Developing a relationship with God and simply being a light for those who are lost.
Keeping education in the forefront I am currently working on my master of theological studies with a concentration in the black church from Trinity Lutheran Seminary @Capital University. For me this is keeping the legacy of my Grandmother alive Carolyn Bessie williams Sanford who was the first black woman to graduated from Capital University in 1934 with a BA in Music Education.
As far as giving back I am a proud member of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc which is the 1st sorority of African American professional women, Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority,Inc where I serve as the LSA Chapter President and a proper member of the order of eastern Star rose of Sharon #8 . Finally mental health and the black church are two areas close to my heart and fuel my passion to outreach. I have the great privilege to co author this with my classmate Dayzia Colflesh it called Healing Combined : A Resource guide to Mental health and the black church, this is available on Amazon

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
one of my favorite poem says ” … Life is queer with its twist nd turns …” and for me I can say that there have been various twist and turns on this journey. the most challenging on was being diagnosed with HypertropicCardiomyopthy and having stage 3 heart failure. So took a leap and moved to CA not knowing that this move would be on that would saved my life. From open heart surgery, 3 idc pacemakers replaced, to ultra filtration (dyalisus of the heart) through it all im here and i refuse to give up

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently I am working at Hamma Library st Trinity Lutheran Seminary @ Capital University. This position allows me to be exposed to a diverse set of readings and be a voice of diversity and inclusion Currently I am completing my Master of Theological Studies with a Concentration in the Black Church
