Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Walker.
Hi Caitlin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In April 2007 I received my cosmetology license. I was fortunate enough to attend cosmetology in high school. Receiving my license and working in the field before even graduating high school. I eventually went on to manage a salon and lead a team of 9 amazing stylist. About 4 years later I decided to step away from management to be able to spend more time with my daughter. I continued in the cosmetology field at a small private salon. Not long after moving to a smaller salon, I was accepted into the training program to become a Matrix Artist. I was beyond excited as my passion has always been helping stylist grow and become the best they can be. Just 2 months after being accepted we were about to have our 1st live training. Then hit the 2020 shut down. During that time, I ended up training virtually. It had its challenges but still we all worked through it. About 8 weeks into the shutdown salons in Ohio opened back up. It was nerve-racking but we couldn’t stay home forever. I continued as a stylist at the private salon while still training to become a Matrix Artist. During this time, I realized life is too short and that salon was just not my “home”. Myself and another stylist that had been working with since 2018 decided to open up our own salon suite. At this time, it’s been almost a year and we couldn’t be happier.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road. The struggles along the way were learning how to deal with the changing times during a pandemic and how to make sure all of the clients along with ourselves were comfortable along the way. January / February 2022 was one of the most challenging times as a hairstylist. Ohio had a huge surge of covid cases during and right after the holidays of 2021. Daily, you would have clients canceling from either testing positive or close contact. Once Mach came around thing started to pick back up.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a hairstylist specializing in color. I love doing blonding and red hair. I’m also a Matrix Artist (educator) for the brand. I am proud that I have been able to step outside my comfort zone and keep growing as a person, hairstylist, and Artist. I’m known to be the go-to person when someone is looking for advice. From anything like color formulating to business side of things. I love when another stylist gets that aha moment and it starts to come together for them.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I love Audiobooks. From other hairstylist podcasts to books about personal growth, team building, or motivational.
