Meet Brittney Wienken of 7th Street Deli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Wienken.

Hi Brittney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up in Spencerville, OH, with a population of only 2K, I was a frequent shopper at the local deli – the only store within 15 miles to sell fresh deli meat, salads, chicken, beef, and pork. I understand the value of having quality food options within my own community and when the opportunity literally fell in my lap to purchase the Deli in 2019, I didn’t think twice. The previous owner contacted me, whom I worked for over 8 plus years, and he knew with my previous business experience and passion for cooking that he offered me the opportunity to purchase the Deli. I’m a big believer in shop local, and the deli is just so convenient for us… Our town needs this. The business experience has always been in my blood dating back to my Grandparents and my father, whom owned and operated B&D Variety Store and then later B&D Flooring.

Since taking ownership of the 7th Street Deli in early 2020, we’ve been able to expand the business into offering more more unique daily lunch specials, catering options, and providing a drive-thru for easy food pick-up.

Experimenting different recipes and ideas along with serving customers is what I truly enjoy most. I can’t thank my family, friends, and community for supporting our little hometown deli enough! Can’t wait to see where it goes from here!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Shortly after taking ownership of the Deli in early 2020, the COVID pandemic hit immediately thereafter. We experienced shortages in products and supplies along with increased product costs. Still to this day, we are still experiencing some of those same very things.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We specialize in fresh deli meats and cheese along with homemade salads and desserts. We also offer fresh ground beef in-store along with pork, chicken, and beef products. We also offer a variety of produce and other pantry staples. We are the only store within a 15-minute drive to offer these items to our community and other surrounding towns.

We are also getting more involved with catering and expanding into that department. Our daily home-cooked lunch specials are also becoming more and more popular and even with the addition of adding a grill and fryer to the mix.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
It’s wild to me that I was extremely quiet and shy, and now I am a small business owner talking to customers all day long. After high school, I was not sure what I wanted to do, so I worked two jobs until I was ready to attend college for business. Then, in 2012, I went back and received my BA in business administration. I’ve always had an interest in business due to my family history of being self-employed that in 2013, I even opened up an online boutique which I operated until this year.
