Today we’d like to introduce you to Bee Hollyn.
Hi Bee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Walking the path of the Unconventional has been essential to my path of healing and calling all parts of myself home to wholeness after the personal and cultural impacts of much of our systemic design in this country. Inspired by the alternative public education I had the privilege to receive at the Open School in Colorado, as well as the opportunity to self-design my degree here in Yellow Springs at Antioch College with research co-ops around the world – I can proudly say I am a voyager through and through. Despite moving and traveling much of my life, I am so glad to call Yellow Springs, Ohio a true home of the past decade, as I continue to do my creative research and work with clients around the world. Much of my curiosity as a child lead me to remembering and welcoming other ways of “knowing” – and now I know how to be comfortable in the “not knowing” in the age of information as I have discovered that can be more helpful than instant made-up answers. I am a life long self-directed learner and weaver of wisdom. I am honored to be alive during these times.
I have deep reverence for our earth based ancestors. I wish to acknowledge the colonial violence towards the indigenous peoples of Ohio and across the country and our shared world, as well as the opportunity to work towards repair and relationship with the land and the ancestors that live on through it. Plants are our oldest living relatives, thus they have brilliant strategies to share with us, as they move through the life/death/life cycle of the seasons – cycles that can be tracked by the moon, sun and stars. Archetypal cosmology, such as Astrology, is an earth based practice of orienting towards the inner cycles of growth personally, collectively, and ecologically. Earth based cosmologies offer us a connection to the great mystery of life.
After graduating from Antioch College with my self-designed Bachelor’s degree in Ecoperformance art, in addition to creating seasonal performances: I was hungry to learn astrology as a language of archetypes inspired by a local gem and friend Nikole Rosalina who supported my path as a herbalist, artist and weaver of wisdom over many years. I began my formal astrology studies with Debra Silverman’s Applied astrology school. After I completed each of her levels, I joined another program called Sky Scholar by intuitive astrologer Virginia Rosenberg where I further deepened my understanding. I also have been studying the tarot archetypal system and astro-herbalism with Empress Karen Rose from Brooklyn, NY in her Patreon community and regularly attend her yearly herbal conferences. 5 years after I decided to study to become an astrologer, I continue to be a part of astrological and herbal community spaces including the non-profit Lighted House that holds a professional group of psychological astrologers from around the globe founded by Meire Santos, PsyD. and Bruna Maia, MA and advised by Heidi Rose Robbins. I am thankful to the many trustworthy lineage holders who inform my art and practice – I have bibliographies of acknowledgments I can share upon request.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Stepping into the Unknown requires both faith in the unseen world, and courage to be the author of your own story. Creating your own business means being and following your own authority. Being a leader of your own life means you are both the initiator and the initiated. We have lost reverence for our elders and the old ways of holding each other through initiatory rites in the white washed society here in the states. We are left to the cultural threads of our ancestors to gain an understanding of what has come before and hold ourselves the best we can, and learn as we go to rediscover community care and the importance of cultural workers and artists. Through life’s essential trials and tribulations, there is an opportunity to reclaim lost parts of ourselves or repeat old cycles that keep us reliving the past. To be a futurist is to have reverence for the traditions of the past that nourish our roots, and water the future blooming through the choices we make with presence.
I am devoted to rediscovering and forming deep connections with my own heritage through understanding the cultural technologies that helped my ancestors survive impossible situations. When I study other cultures, I am mindful of both the context of their struggles and the medicine they create together for collective and individual healing. I firmly believe that social justice and healing work ought to go hand in hand. I share work from other cultures I have deeply encountered with as much context and reverence as possible, to honor the roots of the practices as well as ways to engage in right relationship – such as with yoga and its many expressions. When I teach yoga workshops or work privately with an astrology client by weaving different lineages, ancestral healing and respect is always at the center.
